NON-DISTRICT Professional Learning Community (PLC) Meetings
This series of meetings will provide an opportunity for
school administrators and teacher leaders to engage in
informal roundtable discussions to share and discuss the
common concerns and needs unique to the settings of
students with special needs who attend non-district
schools. Information will be pooled regarding best
practices, resources, family outreach strategies, and
student engagement techniques. Updates from NYSED
and OSE will also be provided.

Self-Advocacy Strategies for SWD’s (Students With
Disabilities) This session will focus on strategies that SWD’s and their
advocates {i.e. families-staff-community sponsors} may
utilize for promoting their interests, preferences, and
{life} goals. Participants will share experiences in helping
SWD’s develop Self-Realization profiles that articulate
abilities; strengths; successes; challenges; realistic
limitations; Cultivating likes/dislikes; Self-Determination
endeavors; Participation in CSE/IEP Meetings & the
decision-making process for services, modifications; etc;

TRANSITION WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION AUDIENCE DATE TIME LOCATION
Transition Assessment to Inform the Development of
the IEP
This training will provide participants with information on
age-appropriate transition assessments to inform IEP
development. Participants will learn about the use of
transition assessments to assist decision making in regard
to instructional programming, annual goals, the
development of measurable post-secondary goals and
related transition services. Hands-on activities will be
provided. *Sessions will be co-delivered with Bilingual Specialist and

Student-Directed IEP Workshop Series This workshop series will provide participants with research-
based practices and professional and peer support that will
assist participants to empower their students to take a lead role
in their education by advocating for themselves and their
futures. This workshop is for you if you are interested in being
a part of a think tank and sharing ideas and resources with
colleagues from other districts as well as availing yourself of
national resources. All participants will be provided with a
book that will be used throughout the series.
Participation at all four meetings is required for participating
teacher(s). Administrators are welcomed at all meetings;
however their attendance is only requested/required at the first
meeting to inform their understanding of the project.

The Way To Work - Book Study Many districts are seeking to implement or improve Work
Based Learning programs to meet the requirements of the
CDOS Credential. Participants will be provided the book
The Way to Work by, Richard Luecking to assist them in
developing quality, compliant work based learning
programs to meet the needs of their students. This Book
Study will meet 6 half day sessions during the 2016-17
school year and participants will be expected to attend
each session. In order to facilitate dialogue and maximize
the experience the Book Studies will be limited to the first
15 participants. Only 1 person from each district or
agency will be admitted in order to increase the
opportunities for all to benefit from this extraordinary
opportunity!

New York State Career Development and
Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement
Credential
This workshop series will be offered as 3 distinct
modules. Each module builds on the former, as such;
attendance at previous modules is a necessary
requirement for registration at later modules.
CDOS Module 1- The workshop will provide an
overview of the CDOS credential and the regulatory
requirements necessary for districts to award the

CDOS Module 2 will focus on the three CDOS learning
standards that serve as the foundation for the credential.
The module will provide participants with information on
how to integrate, infuse and augment lessons in order to
assist students in gaining the skills and experiences
necessary to be successful in and out of the classroom.
CDOS Module 3 will provide participants with an
overview of NYS work-based learning programs, job
coaching, as well as connecting these experiences to the
CDOS learning standards and the exiting credentials. The
components of a quality Work-Based Learning program
will be identified and discussed.

*Participants need to have attended CDOS Modules 1, 2, and
3 prior to attending this training.
CDOS – Making it Happen will provide participants with an
overview of the National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance
Center (NSTTAC) Predictors of Post-School Success and a
framework for identifying and documenting evidence of sample tasks
at the Commencement Level for all three CDOS Learning Standards.
Specific examples of work-based learning experiences across the
continuum from awareness, exploration, and preparation, through
case study vignettes will be shared. Districts are encouraged to come
in teams to engage in in-depth conversations and hands-on activities
with these specific requirements of the CDOS Commencement
Credential within their teams and with teams from other districts.

Interagency Transition Teams
An interagency transition team brings together a variety of
stakeholders who are supporting youth with disabilities so
they can have the best chances for success as adults.
Interagency teams serve varied purposes. They are to:
Identify local needs or discontinuity in policies,
procedures, services, and programs that hinder youth with
disabilities from achieving desired, valued outcomes;
increase the availability, access, and quality of
interagency transition services through the development
and improvement of policies, procedures, systems,
funding, and other mechanisms for providing seamless
transition services to youth with disabilities and their
families; help other service representatives understand the

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)/Behavioral
Intervention Plans (BIP): Building Comprehensive
Plans of Support
Discussion and activities will identify all NYS required
components of the FBA/BIP process. Participants will gain
understanding of an efficient team based FBA process &
the subsequent creation of an effective BIP through the use

Overview based on Pyramid Model for Preschool
This half-day (3 hours) workshop invites preschool staff to
learn the Pyramid Model for the preschool population. The
Pyramid Model is a school wide 3 tiered framework of
evidenced based practices which may lead to academically

The CSE/CPSE Process
“New CSE/CPSE Chairpersons”
This workshop was developed in collaboration with the
NYS State Education Department to provide CPSE and
CSE chairpersons with a best practices approach to the
CPSE/CSE process in their role as a chairperson. The
training follows the CPSE/CSE process from referral
through reevaluation. Through a combination of lecture
and activities, participants will gain an understanding of
the chairperson’s role as defined within law and
regulation, and learn to facilitate parent participation

“Test Access and Accommodations for Students with
Disabilities”
This training provides information and practical ideas to
assist attendees with choosing and implementing
appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.
The SED guidebook will be the primary resource used to
help all participants develop procedures for choosing
accommodations that directly match student needs
evidenced in the IEP. Considerable time will be spent
discussing how to gather evidence of the need for
accommodations as well as documenting the use or non-
use of accommodations for future CSE meetings.

“Educational Benefit: Strategies for Improving
Individual Education Programs & Decision Making at
the CSE”
This workshop provides districts with a process for
reviewing IEPs to analyze links between assessment data,
Present Levels of Performance (PLP), measurable goals,
program modifications, and recommend programs and
services. The analysis allows district to determine whether
there is evidence that a student is progressing
appropriately, and therefore receiving educational benefit
from the IEP. Districts are asked to bring copies of a
student’s IEP for 3consecutive years to use during
activities.
