Lesson title: Students write their own school report Skill focus: Report writing | Satire Length: Whole lesson Year levels: 7-10 Instructions: Mad Libs is a game that's been around for yonks. Basically, you list a range of random words and then insert them into a narrative with a series of blanks in it. For example, I might ask students to list their favourite fruit. I might then give them this Mad Lib: My best friend in the whole wide world is a____________________. What I love about____________________is.... Students need to insert their favourite fruit into the blank. The idea is that you create a nonsense story and have some fun. This Mad Libs English School Report activity is ideal for the end of term or semester. Students start with the Random Survey which is attached. This random survey asks them questions such as: Who is your favourite movie star? How would you describe your locker? What is a stupid thing you've done this term? Once students have done this, they are then given the template to a English Report (find it attached with the resources) with a number of blanks in it. In the blanks, such as "Dear_____________(1)" or "The thing I liked most this term was (3)" they need to insert information from their survey. There is either a number next to each blank, which means the need to put in their response to that numbered question from the survey, or there is nothing - which means they need to explain something in their own words. It's about having some fun by writing nonsense - but also about developing our satire skills. © Tomorrow’s Class 2014 Lessons that put you a class ahead www.tomorrowsclass.com [email protected] +061 0427 340 757

Instructions:

Mad Libs is a game that's been around for yonks. Basically, you list a range of random words and then insert them into a narrative with a series of blanks in it. For example, I might ask students to list their favourite fruit. I might then give them this Mad Lib:

My best friend in the whole wide world is a____________________.
