The Tortoise That Wanted to Fly

There was once a tortoise that was unhappy for being such a slow animal. He walked slowly, he talked slowly and he

even chewed slowly on the sweet grass growing beside his forest pool.

One day, he noticed a large eagle flying overhead. It flew quickly and gracefully. Flying looked so easy that the tortoise

decided that he would like to learn how to f ly, too.

The eagle came to rest on a rock near the pool and the tortoise saw his chance. He said, Hi handsome eagle, you fly

so well! Please teach me how to fly. I want to learn from you.

The eagle was astonished. What? Teach you how to fly? Are you kidding? But you have no wings or feathers!

Again, the tortoise pleaded, Please, Mr. Eagle. Im sure that I can learn well. The tortoise kept asking the eagle.

Finally, the helpful eagle agreed. He picked up the tortoise with his claws and flew high in the sky. Then, he let go of the

tortoise and told him to flap his legs and fly.

The tortoise flapped his legs as hard as he could, but he fell like a stone towards the ground. Luckily, he fell into a

bush. He was bruised and badly shaken. He was not seriously hurt. After all, he never tried to fly again!

Moral: Be humble. We should know our own limits.
