Technically activated with a “License Key”

• A “Licensed Function Authorization” document is shipped when above features are ordered• Client uses “Authorization Code” from the document to obtain License Key for their machine• Client installs License Key on machine to technically activate the function

License terms

• Licensed to a Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 control enclosure• Single license covers entire Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 system (control enclosure and all

attached expansion enclosures)• Once activated, functions remain licensed to the machine and cannot be transferred to

another machine• If machine is sold or transferred, all activated functions remain active and license ownership

transfers with the machine

Note: Hardware and licensed functions must be purchased from Lenovo. Intermixing between vendors is not supported.

V3700 V2 Trial - LizenzenTO HELP EVALUATE THE BENEFITS, SELECT FUNCTIONS* CAN BE ENABLED AT NO CHARGE FOR 90 DAYS

• Easy Tier• Remote mirroring• Each function can be enabled only once for the 90 day trial

TRIALS ARE CLIENT-INITIATED FROM GUI AND DON’T REQUIRE LENOVO INTERVENTION

• During the trial, functions behave in same manner as if purchased and enabled with a License Key• Informational and warning event notifications are issued to notify client of days remaining until expiration

UPON EXPIRATION OF TRIAL, A FUNCTION IS AUTOMATICALLY DISABLED

• unless a License Key for that function has been installed onto the machine

TRIALS ARE ENABLED ON A PER-FUNCTION BASIS

• All functions don’t need to be evaluated simultaneously

[*] : The FlashCopy upgrade function (support for up to 2,040 targets) cannot be enabled for the 90 day trial. FlashCopy support for up to 64 targets is a standard function on all machines and therefore it can be used to evaluate the benefits of FlashCopy.

21

FlashCopy

• FlashCopy (snapshot) function is optional for up to 4096 targets

• Enables taking more or more frequent copies

Support more VMs from a single master copy

Enables more work to proceed in parallel

31

Microsoft Off loaded Data Transfer (ODX) ODX is the Microsoft equivalent of the VMWare VAAI interfaces

Allows Windows Server 2012 hosts to move or copy data within a Storwize array without moving the data through the SAN.

Can significantly reduce client-server network traffic and host CPU usage during large data transfers because all data movement is within the array back end.

 Windows 8 & Windows 2012 supported

Main user will be Hyper V - when deploying virtual machines" but even “drag-and-drop” copying of large files will invoke ODX

ODX is turned ON by default and can be turned off via the CLI using 'chsystem' command if required

Neither VAAI or ODX reduces the amount of work performed by the storage controller - they just save work in the host server and reduce traffic on the SAN.

Consequently 'bench marking' the performance benefits of these features is difficult because it is not just sufficient to generate a heavy I/O workload you need to generate a heavy CPU workload on the host system as well.

Lenovo and IBM Intermix & Connectivity Rules

What you CAN do

• Clustering – You can cluster a V5000 (Gen 1) purchased from Lenovo with a Lenovo Storage V5030 (Gen 2)

They must both be sourced from Lenovo. No clustering across vendors.

• Virtualization - Virtualization can go across Gen 1 and Gen 2, as well as across IBM and Lenovo An IBM Storwize V5000, V5030 or V7000 can virtualize a Lenovo V Series Gen 1 or Gen 2 array, and

A Lenovo Storwize V5000, V7000 or Lenovo Storage V5030 can virtualize an IBM Storwize product.

• Remote Replication - Remote replication can be between Gen. 1 and Gen. 2, as well as across IBM and Lenovo IBM Storwize arrays can be connected to a Lenovo V Series array via the Remote Replication features of each of them

Lenovo and IBM Intermix & Connectivity Rules

What you CANNOT do• No intermix of IBM and Lenovo enclosures, parts or features are allowed.

o If a Storwize system is an IBM Machine Type (e.g.: V3700 = 2072), then ALL options and expansion enclosures must be ordered from IBM

o If a Storage system is a Lenovo Machine Type (e.g.: V3700 = 6099), then ALL options and expansion enclosures must be ordered from Lenovo

• No intermix of Lenovo Storwize V3500/V3700/V5000 (Gen 1) and Lenovo Storage V3700 V2/V5030 (Gen 2) parts are allowed, excepto Power cords, FC host cables

• No intermix of unique parts between the Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 modelso Advanced Function activation keys (PNs differ between V3700 V2 models)

• Storwize V5000 and Lenovo Storage V5030 - no transfers of SW licenses from one box to another. SW licenses are attached to the serial number of an enclosureo The only exception would be for SW licenses for External Virtualization which correspond to an external storage device. If the

Lenovo Storwize V5000 or Lenovo Storage V5030 that is virtualizing that external storage is changed, the licenses for externalvirtualization attached to that external device can be transferred.
