Asda Sporting Chance

Free Sports for kids

A community initiative that gives children access to free sports sessions during their school holidays.

Simply look out for star marked Sports Shots and free vouchers in your local Asda store. Please note vouchers are limited to 1 voucher per child, per holiday and you must produce your voucher at the time of booking, therefore we are only able to take Free Asda Sporting Chance bookings in person. Places fill up fast so please book early.

Leisure Centre Activities

Leisure Centre Activity Days

Fully supervised days including sports challenges, teambuilding, bouncy castle, giant games, arts & crafts and swimming.A power hour is available. This is a drop in session, book-able on the day when space is available. Occasionally we include short themed workshops. These are included in the activity day price and provide variety and the chance to try something new.

Day Trips Trips to local attractions are organised throughout the holidaysoffering the chance to go off-site and visit somewhere new (alltransport included).

Outdoor Pursuits Supplementary to the activity days. The outdoor pursuits are supervised by experienced instructors. Great for building confidence,motivating young people and boosting self esteem.

Pool Based Activities

Newton Abbot Leisure Centre and Dawlish Leisure Centre have aprogramme of pool based activities. These include intensive lessons,galas and taster sessions.

Sports Shots Fun, sports themed sessions, open to all abilities. Whether you’rehooked on trampolining or a footy fan, these sessions are a great way to learn more about a favourite sport.

Each week Intensive swimming courses are available forBeginners (Stage 1-3), Improvers (Stage 4-5) & Advanced (Stage 6-7)

Snorkelling 2-day Courses All equipment supplied. For children at Stage 6 or competent swimmers.

9.00am–10.00am: - Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th August. An introduction to snorkelling, learn how to snorkel

Synchronised Swimming 9.00am – 10.00am, 25th August. An introduction to Synchronised Swimming including sculling and egg beater techniques. Depending on your abilities you may begin to work towards small sequences. For Children at Stage 5 or competent swimmers.

Scuba Diving Wednesday 3rd August, Friday 12th August or Friday 26th August. This exciting new pool based activity enables children to ‘Try Dive’ and experience Scuba Diving! Open to all children aged 8 - 17 years. A-Z of Outdoor Pursuits Bodyboarding & Beach Games (8-16yrs)Come and body board the ‘pumping’ waves of Polzeath. You will need to be a competent swimmer and have your own wetsuit and bodyboard. (Wetsuits can be provided upon request).

Boot Camp & Lazer Shoot (see grid on pages 25/26)Are you up for a challenge? Get muddy crawling through undergrowth and crossing streams! Followed by an afternoon of lazershoot.

Bouldering and Weaseling(8-16yrs)Low to the ground rock climbing & scrambling. Squeeze through rock crevices & explore the granite rock formations of Dartmoor.

Bushcraft and Survival Skills (8-16 years) Come and enjoy a day in the woods learning survival skills including fire-lighting, shelter building and camp craft.

Coasteering* (10-16yrs)A ‘high-octane’ mix of swimming, climbing & jumping around the South Devon coastline. This is the ‘ultimate form of liquid refreshment’. You must be moderately fit and able to confidently swim 25 metres.

Gorge Scrambling (8-16yrs)Walking up a river, climbing small waterfalls, sliding down natural watershutes and jumping into plunge pools. Helmets, wetsuits and buoyancy aids provided.

Kayaking (Off Site) (10yrs plus)Enjoy a fun filled day of kayaking on Exeter canal. You will have the chance to learn skills, play kayak games and get soaked!

Mountain Biking (8-16yrs)Join us on Haldon Forest as we twist and turn along the trails. You will need to bring your own bike and helmet. Transport Provided.

Orienteering (8-16yrs)A test of mind & agility! Enjoy the freedom of navigating through woodlands in search of treasure clues marked on a unique orienteering map.

Paintball Challenge (12-16yrs)Blast off within this life-like military setting; learn how to stalk enemies and camouflage. Includes a 6 mile ‘tab’ (fast walk), military tasks and an afternoon of paintballing.

Raft Building(8-16years)How are your construction Skills? Come and impress us by working in teams to build you own raft and test it on the water! Will yours stay afloat?

Rock Pooling (6-16 yrs)Delve into the rock pools and play games on Bantham beach, explore and ride the dunes. Everyone will need to bring buckets and nets.

Scurry & Splash! (8-16yrs)Practice your balance and skill as you negotiate the challenges of the low ropes before heading off for some seriously wet fun in the gorge.

1. Pre booking is required as places are limited. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

2. Please ensure that children wear suitable clothing for the activity that they are participating in.

3. Children must bring ample drinks, a packed lunch if the activity is running all day and sun cream during hot sunny weather. We recommend putting an ice pack in your child’s lunch box during warm weather.

4. If the activity, or part of the session is run ‘off site’ you are giving permission for your child to be taken to a location that is not a Teignbridge District Council (TDC) run facility i.e. day trips.

5. TDC recognises the value of adventurous activities as a contributing factor to a young person’s educational and social development. The extensive programmes of Outdoor Pursuits aims to encourage the ‘spirit of adventure,’ develop self confidence and a sense of achievement.

6. If an activity involves swimming, you are agreeing to your child participating in a swimming session at a TDC facility, or approved leisure park.

7. We will always use vehicles that are fully insured and carry seatbelts for trips away from the centre.

8. All staff involved in holiday activities have been Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checked and have received child protection awareness and procedures training. On occasions TDC staff may have to assist your child when close contact is required e.g. changing clothing, showing the correct way to hold sporting equipment, assistance with toileting or nappy changing.

9. Please collect your child straight away if we notify you that they are ill, or arrange for somebody to collect them.

10. Mobile phones and electronic games are brought in at owner’s risk.

11. TDC accepts no responsibility for any personal loss which may be incurred during the activity/trips programme.

12. Holiday activities will only be refunded when a valid doctor’s note is provided or if insufficient numbers enrol and an activity subsequently is cancelled. If you wish to cancel a booked activity, you will be given the opportunity to transfer your booking to another day/activity, of the same value (subject to availability). If your booking cannot be transferred, we will issue a credit to be used the following school holiday. We will only transfer this once. Your credit will remain on your child’s account.

13. Please give us sufficient notice if cancelling your space; this is to allow us adequate time to contact customers on the waiting list.

14. Can you please bring with you all items your child will need such as nappies, wipes, bottles, change of clothes.

RED AND YELLOW flags indicate the area patrolled by lifeguards. These are the safe areas to swim, body board and use inflatables.

The RED flag indicates danger. NEVER enter the water when the red flag is flying, under any circumstances.

BLACK AND WHITECHEQUERED flags indicate an area zoned by lifeguards for use of watercraft such as surfboards and kayaks. Never swim or body board in these areas.

The ORANGE windsock indicates offshore wind conditions. You should NEVER use an inflatable when the sock is flying.
