This includes decoding words by syllables and understanding spelling options for different sounds - especially long vowels. The students also work on high frequency and sight words that don't necessarily follow spelling rules but appear so often in print. The teachers meet briefly each week to share duties in planning and gathering what's needed for the week's lessons. This weekly exchange gives them the opportunity to get to know students better and provides encouragement to students to know that what they write is important for an audience!
