    Lectures inMethodologies of jurisprudence usul al-fiqh ( ),

    commentating the famous work "Kefayatul Osul" (sufficiency of methodology),

    written by Mullah Muhammad Kazem Khorasani

    Mohammad Kazem Khorasani (18391911 ) was aTwelverShi'aMarja,Persian(Iranian)

    politician, philosopher, reformer, born in

    Tousin northwestern Iran. He is known

    for using his position as amarjafor

    political use in thePersian

    Constitutional Revolution(1905-1911 ).

    Khorasani started his education in

    MashhadandSabzevarwhere he got

    familiar withphilosophyand continued

    his education inTehranwhere he learntLogicand Hekmat. In 1861 at the age of

    22, he emigrated to Tehran and studied

    philosophy for a ashort time and thentravelled to Najaf and studied 2years in

    the presence of " sheikhAnsari" but hestudied more in the presence of "Mirza

    Shirazi" (greatscholar). In 1874 , MirzaShirazi was resident in Samerra Iraq,

    butKhorasani himself established aschool in Najaf and trained some 1200

    students which 200of them werejurisconuslts; he was a #### successful

    master. Contemporary jurisconsult such

    as: the late Seyyed Aubl HasanIsfahani,

    the late sheikh Muhammad Hossei

    Isfahani, the late HosseinBoroujerdi,

    the laye Hosssein Qomi and the late Zia

    alDin Iraqi, allwere his students.

    Khorasani is more famous for methodology (Osul). Hisideas are always are considered andtaught in Hawzeh (religiousschools). His most famous work is the "Kefayatul Osul"

    (sufficiency of methodology), an important text-book which have been written many glosses on

    it .The Sufficiency ranks "only afterMorteza Ansari's treatice on commercial law" among thelegal works written by our scholars in the last two centuries

    Khorasani had also political activities .He pronounced fatwa on constitution of Iran (publiclypronounced thatconstitution is absolutely necessary). Constitution of Iran is indebtedto him.Khorasani and sheikh Abdullah Mazandarani and sime otherscholars in Najaf agreed with

    constitution of Iran, they believed thatit was a path towards justice. They also pronounced fatwaon dethroning" Muhammad Ali shah" (king of Qajar dynasty) in order to consolidateIslamic

    government and unnity among people. Khorasani also foughtagainst humanism andirreligiousness in Iran.

    Mohammad Kazem Khorasani was one of the main clerical supporters of theIranian

    Constitutional Revolution. Khorasani had a significant role in popularizing the modern concepts

    introduced by non religious intellectuals of his time. He emphasised "natural rights" of people

    and pushed the Iranian government and Shah to defend "natural rights". He died at1910

    and isburied inNajaf.
