Leonardo E. Bruno, Jr.3 July 2015Learning Design Models & Learning Styles1The systematic process by which instructional materials are designed, developed and delivered. (Instructional Design Central)Is the analysis of learning needs and systematic development of instruction (Wikipedia.org).INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNPrescriptive models provide guidelines or frameworks to organize and structure the process of creating instructional activities. These models can be used to guide your approach to instructional design.Instructional Design Models3The ADDIE Model provides a step-by-step process that helps instructional designers plan and create lessons with a framework. This is in order to make sure that their instructional products are effective and that their processes are as efficient as they can possibly be.

ADDIE MODELADDIE Model

Developed by Lever Duffy and McDonald (2011)6 Step model built around a continual internal and external feedback loop, with each step containing opportunities for feedback and revision within it, as well as within the entire processDYNAMIC INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN (DID) MODELKnow the Learners assessing learners developmental stage, both physically and mentallyArticulate Objectives Objectives for student performance should encapsulate exactly what you expect students to be able to do or to have learned by the end of the instructional unit. Establish the Learning Environment Clarify what you will do to create an environment for this unit conducive to learning.Steps in the DID ModelIdentify Teaching and Learning Strategies Describe in detail the teaching and learning strategies that need to be implemented to meet the objectives.Select Technologies Based on the teaching and learning strategies identified, select media, materials and technology that will support each strategy. Evaluate and Revise the Design Perform a summative evaluation of student learning.Steps in the DID ModelPIE MODEL

The PIE Model is a more flexible model of instructional media explained by Newbie Stepich, Lehman and Russell.

The three steps in PIE Model:

The steps could be interchanged, thus creating flexibility.

The ARCS model is an instructional design approach that focuses on the motivational aspects of learning environment. The model was created by John Keller in the 80s. Two Parts of the ARCS ModelFour components of motivation: Arousing interest, creating relevance, developing expectance of success and producing satisfaction through intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. Process that assists instructional designers in creating appropriate motivational elements for the intended learners. ARCS MODEL

ARCS MODELThe ASSURE model is an ISD (Instructional Systems Design) process that was modified to be used by teachers in the regular classroom The ISD process is one in which teachers and trainers can use to design and develop the most appropriate learning environment for their students. You can use this process in writing your lesson plans and in improving teaching and learning.ASSURE MODEL

1. Identify instructional problems, and specify goals for designing an instructional program.2. Examine learner characteristics that should receive attention during planning.3. Identify subject content, and analyze task components related to stated goals and purposes.4. State instructional objectives for the learner.5. Sequence content within each instructional unit for logical learning.6. Design instructional strategies so that each learner can master the objectives.7. Plan the instructional message and delivery.8. Develop evaluation instruments to assess objectives.9. Select resources to support instruction and learning activities.

KEMP DESIGN MODEL

KEMP DESIGN MODELThere are various theories on how learners learn. The most common of them are the following:

VAK (Fleming)Multiple Intelligences (Gardner)LEARNING STYLES According to this model, most people possess a dominan or preferred learning style, however, some people have a mixed and evenly balanced blend of three styles:Visual Learners prefer the use of images , maps and graphic organizers to access and understand new information.Auditory Learners understand new content through listening and speakingKinesthetic Learners best understand through tactile representation of information.
