Early Years Learning Centre Thank you to all of the parents and carers who attended the Early Years info night on Wednesday the 16th, we are looking forward to working with your child/children next year in the Early Years. In the Early Years in PLT 1 this week students have been reading the story “Kippers Lost Ball” and focusing our word of the week “help”, students have been identifying the objects from the story and the characters with some students matching objects to pictures and other students choosing their favourite picture/object from a selection to complete a sentence e.g. My favourite character is. . . In other classrooms students have been playing with boxes and using their imagination to create things from the story “Not a box”. In maths students have been learning about shapes using play dough and concrete materials. In PLT 2 students are learning to recognize emotions in text and reading “Betty goes bananas”, they have also been exploring how to play games using turn taking both with the teacher and there other classmates. In maths students have been learning about shapes and exploring 2D and 3D shapes in the classroom and the outside spaces. PLT 3 have been learning about patterns and algebra in maths and exploring how to make patters with letters, numbers and colours. In English students have been focusing on using describing words and viewing the text Mr Squiggle and creating sentences about the story. Transition morning for students will be on the 2nd of December, on this morning they will be in their new classrooms with their teacher and ES staff for next year. Middle Years Team Leader

It’s hard to believe that we are two-thirds of the way through Term 4. The Middle Years students who are going to Bethany Road Campus in 2017 are having their first transition session today and will spend three hours at BRC getting to know the layout of the campus, some of the staff and students. Thank you to Anthony Heffernan and Belinda Hollingworth for taking the students for this experience. There are two more transition days booked for Friday 2 December and Friday 9 December. Next Friday will be the whole school transition day when students will meet their new teachers for 2017, their new classmates and the classroom they will be in. Your child will bring a letter home the same day informing you of the Teacher and Educational Support Staff in the room along with the names of their classmates. This is a valuable document to share with your child over the school holiday period in preparation for the beginning of the 2017 school year.

Thank you to the parents who attended our 2017 Information session last Wednesday night. We had a great response from parents at our main campus and it was wonderful to meet new families and spend time answering questions and getting to know the students. We look forward to partnering with you and your child next year.

It has been an exciting time for PLT1 these last couple of weeks. In numeracy and literacy we have been working on time, specifically day and night. We have been looking at the texts Time for Bed and Blackout. As part of our Inquiry students have been studying the importance of resting and sleeping to ensure we stay healthy. Students have practiced their routine of what

they do before they go to sleep and what they need to sleep. In numeracy students have also been looking at number recognition. This week we also went to Animal Land in Diggers Rest over two different days. The students participated in hands on activities such as milking a cow, feeding the different animals, playing with the baby animals and even going on a tractor ride around the farm. Everyone really enjoyed this even though it was wet and muddy.

Groups 20, 39, 40, 41 & 42 Over the past two weeks students have continued to explore our Inquiry question ‘How can we care for our bodies?’ Students have explored the correct way to wash their hands and brush their teeth, practicing the skills and then writing procedural texts referring to images of themselves for support. Students have begun exploring the word ‘collaboration’ and what it means. Through a variety of group work games and activities students have learnt the skills necessary to collaborate and have good team work such as; listening, sharing, speaking nicely, helping and working together. During Maths students have focused on patterns and shapes. Students explored patterns through music and sound, creating beaded necklaces and fruit and vegetable painting. Whilst exploring shapes, students created shape monsters, which they then wrote about, exploring what shapes they used and how many sides and edges each shape contains.

Groups 22, 23, 24 & 25 In the last two weeks, students across PLT 3 have been hard at work as we near the end of the term. The Adobe Kids Voices project has continued with lots of students using the Green Screen room and other areas of the school to film different scenes to their movies. It has been great to see them following their story boards and working collaboratively with their classmates to make their films. In the coming weeks we will be sending home some details and permission forms about the exciting screening here at Warringa, as well as at ACMI in Federation Square. Other areas of focus for mathematics over the last few weeks have included number, data collection and time. The students have been very successful

and showed all of the progress they have made throughout the year. In reading, we have done some work on focusing on identifying problems and resolutions in narrative books. Cheers, Anthony

Later Years Warringa Campus There’s been lots happening over in Later Years in the last couple of weeks. Ceres come in and delivered a great incursion all about energy and how we make it. Students got to see how movement energy made light bulbs work through peddling on a bicycle as well as learning about how the sun could be turned into solar energy. Amy’s class had lots of fun exploring different types of energy such as magnetic energy. Katie’s class has been busy Read Please Mr Panda. Not only have they been learning how to retell main characters and events of the story but also sharing their favourite moments.

Abby’s class has been practicing their counting and sorting skills in Maths. They also got busy in the kitchen and had lots of fun mixing up cupcakes. Practice for the year 10 formal continues. Students have been doing a great job with the dance and we are all so looking forward to seeing them perform it on Friday 2nd December. Not long now till the end of term but we still have lots coming up, including the End of Year celebration evening 15th December and the Later Year’s end of year trip to Werribee Mansion 16th December.

Bethany Road News from Douglas…

Year 8 and 9 students have continued the Solar Explorers Challenge by collaborating in groups to design their solar ovens. This has required groups to research and choose which design they believe will be the best to cook food and share this information on our online collaboration centre to share ideas

and feedback. Students will be making their solar ovens in the next couple of weeks so we look forward to seeing some fantastic ideas and we do advise that some students may request materials from home to add/make their project. Any assistance with gathering these materials would be greatly appreciated. Within Numeracy our students have enjoyed building on their financial mathematics knowledge and skills. A reminder that our campus Athletics Day permission forms need to be returned we are hopeful that the weather will be a lot better this time around. Cheers, Douglas

News from Cayleys Road As the end of the year nears many celebrations and winding up of community based programs come to a close.

This week a BBQ was held at Blackwood where students have been volunteering.

Ceres students had their Graduation for Hospitality and Horticulture programs.

Cayleys Creations celebrated with the annual Spring Market held in the Werribee Sensory Gardens, with our students also opening the café and providing a well earned coffee and snack after some busy shopping by customers. We thank Kerry from VCAL who supported our students with her Barista skills. This is a great example of collaboration across the campuses. VCAL students were selling their coffee beans at the market as well.

Students on transition post school joined an Activity and Fun day held by Karringal at Presidents Park on Wednesday.

This week Family Planning facilitated Sex Education classes, differentiating learning for girls and boys in the area of safe relationships, consent, sexual health and general questions and answers from students.

An Information Evening was held last Thursday and we thank all the parents and students who gave their time to attend and gain a big picture of their students learning for possible the next two years. The staff did a great presentation showing an overall view of our learning experiences, and I thank them also for giving their time.

There will be two weeks of special end of year activities starting Monday December 5th.

Your child has been given an individual timetable of each day- so please keep an eye out for this.
