MODEL OF SOUTH-FACING DOUBLE-SKIN

The Urban Incubator see ks to socially engage and activate the community. The cen-tral atrium articulates and celebrates an inward social moment with daylight and an expressive skin. It also houses a multi-story public media center for the com-munity wrapped inside a grand spiral stair to encourage walking in the workplace. The shared office plates surround it to maximize chance encounters through eye contact. The stair magnetizes circulation upwards to the public facilities of the gallery and green roof. The fins articulate this vertical movement and also serve as a funnel for ventilation of prevailing winds. A south-facing double skin and solar chimney use the Stack, Venturi and Bernoulli effects for building efficiency.

The human body is not equipped to handle the large amounts of manmade pollution being introduced into the air as consumption becomes rampant. The epidemic is causing countless cases of asthma, respiratory illnesses and deaths . The problem is even more pertinent in cities where smog alerts are frequent. Through the use of the Venturi Effect, polluted air can be captured, filtered, and respired efficiently without harm to the body. The Venturi Effect uses the force of naturally -occurring breezes, the differential between high and low pressure zones and increases the velocity of the wind flow. A particulate filter and desiccant filter create healthy air for the respiratory system. The filtered air is passed into the mask and held in a reservoir to be replenished constantly between inhaling and exhaling. The air flow along the face also serves as a cooling mechanism . The mask has two exhaust pipes for the release of carbon dioxide back into the environment. These are high-pressure zones so that polluted air is unable to enter the mask during inhalation.
