Our students were able to learn more about life, government and education in the Falkland Islands thanks to a lecture o�ered by Dr. Barry Elsby, Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands. The British Ambassador to Chile, Fiona Clouder, the President of the UCBC University Council, Pedro Pfe�er, and UCBC Vice-Chancellor, María Cristina Brieba were present.

In order to encourage the English language, sports and the values of healthy coexistence, the UCBC co-organised a soccer championship that was played during the second semester of 2015, with primary school students from Providencia Municipal Schools as competitors.

A student attended a breakfast for representatives of the Preschool Education Student Centre at the Presidential Palace, organised by the Socio Cultural O�ce of the Presidency and Fundación Integra, with the objective of initiating the education reform.

On 26 November 2015, the British Accreditation Council (BAC) granted international accreditation for three years to the Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura (UCBC), the maximum period of time in the case of overseas centres. BAC is a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).

December 2015, Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura awarded 3-year accreditation by BAC.76

This initiative jointly developed by the Research and the International Relations departments of our University involved the visit of Aston University Emeritus Professor Anne Burns, who is currently a teacher and researcher at the School of Education, New South Wales University, Australia.

For the sixth consecutive year the Universidad Chileno Británica de Cultura (UCBC) receives students from di�erent British universities. Leah Grace, Rachael Stephenson and Alex McGeever from the University of Cambridge; Alexander Rees from the University of Oxford; and Charlotte Pearsall from the University of Aston arrived in March.

Representing the UCBC were Pedro Pfe�er, Chairman of the UCBC Board of Governors, Osvaldo Baeza, member of the Board, María Cristina Brieba, UCBC Vice-Chancellor, and María Cecilia Andrada, Project Manager, who will be in charge of coordinating the work with the Escuela. She also visited the London School of Economics (LSE), where she had a meeting with the language coordinator. Moya also had a meeting with Dr. Diana Berruezo-Sánchez, representative of the Faculty of Medieval Languages, at the University of Oxford.

Claudia Gwinn and Sarah Martin, from the University of Cambridge, Flora Scorer and Eleanor Wild, University of Oxford, Julia Clark, University of Leeds, and Konrad Chmielewski, from the University of Nottingham Trent, are the six exchange students that will join the UCBC for the second semester of 2016.

On Thursday 11th of August, 46 graduates from the degree courses in English Teaching and English-Spanish Translation of the Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura were awarded their professional degrees.

Former Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Pedro Pablo Errázuriz, lectured on the importance of smart cities and the contribution of technologies. The meeting was organized by the UCBC, the Kennedy Foundation and the Chilean-British Chamber of Commerce (Britcham).

The Audiovisual Festival for Children, FAN Chile, took place from Wednesday 7 to Saturday 10 of September with the participation of the UCBC teachers of the degree course in English-Spanish Translation, Lee Fenwick and Oscar Subiabre, who acted as interpreters.

HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex accompanied by Pedro Pfe�er, Chairman of the UCBC Board of Governors unveiled a commemorative plaque of his visit on 15 September, 2016.

On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the UCBC signed cooperation agreements particularly focused on research and relations with the community with seven Chilean universities: Universidad Católica, Universidad de Chile, Universidad Central, Universidad San Sebastián, Universidad de Atacama, Universidad de Tarapacá and Universidad Bernardo O’Higgins.

During the celebration of ten years of academic and social work at the UCBC, HRH recognized the e�orts of UCBC students, teachers and sta�.

Former President of the Republic, Ricardo Lagos Escobar, received recognition from the Earl of Wessex for the creation of the programme Inglés Abre Puertas, the first-ever English policy of state. Curiously enough, this policy was announced in 2003 by the then Minister of Education, Sergio Bitar, in the very same room of the UCBC.

The UCBC celebrated the International Translation Day at the National Library. The event was attended by Monique Zachary, translator and interpreter of the School of International Interpreters, Université de Mons-Harnaut, Belgium, Patricia Concha, English-French-Spanish translator, Universidad Católica de Chile, Paula Quijada, English-Spanish, UCBC and Camila Piña, English-Spanish translator, UCBC, and Universidad Católica de Chile MA in translation.
