Lamarque Elementary Paw Prints Hello Lamarque Families-

February is an active month here at Lamarque as we celebrate STEM Fair winners demonstrate care with candy grams

and focus on the heart of the school year quarter 3 As I visit many of the classrooms on campus I observe teachers switching

gears to review key concepts they taught earlier in the year This is the time of year students are asked to work a little harder and

begin applying their learning more independently

Instead of answering questions posed by their teachers students are being asked to use accountable talk and articu-

late their ideas more frequently Our Kindergarten students are becoming more and more comfortable with the building blocks of

literacy Our 5th grade students are beginning to experience standards that they can begin applying to college and career readi-

ness

For many of our students both February and March are months for preparation Our 3rd-5th grade students along with

their teachers set their eyes on the grade level assessments Seeing the diligent work happening in our intermediate classrooms

gives me confidence that we will show the North Port community a level of excellence it asks of its schools

To our Studentshellip

I want to remind all our students the i-Ready online instruction is an important part of the instructional program your teacher has

planned Every day you attend the literacy labs completing lessons designated for you in both Reading and Mathematics In

order to get the most out of this program we have set the requirements for 45 minutes time on task while also passing 75 of

your lessons Even though there are weeks you may miss the marks the most importantly outcome is you are doing your best

Just know that Irsquom extremely proud of each student who demonstrates effort not only on i-Ready but in their classroom perfor-

mance Continue to ldquoStrive for 45rdquo and achieve your personal growth goals

To our Parentshellip

Many of our students are currently being supported at school daily in both Reading and Mathematics During the month of Febru-

ary we will send home information regarding the help being provided for students below proficiency in these essential subjects If

you receive a letter just know that our grade level teams have developed prescriptive plans for your child in 1 or both areas In

addition we will be reaching out to families to ensure they are informed and a partner in helping their child reach their goals

Calling all ParentshellipWe are excited to announce that the PTO is building the ldquoLamarque All Pro Dadsrdquo (LAPD) Chapter in February

The monthly breakfast and meeting is scheduled for Thursday February starting at 715 We have nearly 30 fathers uncles and

grandfathers attend our 1st event in January and wersquore looking to top that number this month

Points of Pridehellip

Did you know that Lamarque was 1 of 34 schools out of the nearly 1900 Title I schools to earn the Ex-

ceeding Expectations Award On January 31st of this year the team from ECTAC visited our school to

learn more about it and to better understand why we have experienced such success During the analy-

sis what became clear to them was ldquoThe staff is dedicatedrdquo ldquoWe are a familyrdquo and that ldquoOur parents

trust the schoolrdquo

Next October a team from Lamarque will attend the 2019 ECTAC conference held in Orlando It is an

exciting moment for our school and look forward to sharing this honor with the staff

students parents and community members Way to go Lamarque LionshellipLetrsquos

In our lifetime we get two chances for healthy teeth The first set ldquobaby teethrdquo which we will eventually loose Set number two ldquoadult teethrdquo which we are stuck with for a life-timehellip if we are lucky

To keep our teeth healthy we need to follow a few very simple rules

1 Eat healthy and nutritious foods limiting sweets

2 Brush your teeth with an appropriate sized toothbrush morning and night

3 Floss your teeth once a day ask an adult for help if need-ed

4 Use a ldquorinserdquo twice a day to kill germs brushing and floss-ing might have missed

See your dentist twice a year for regular checkups

Itrsquos ok to brush more than 2 times a day if you want

Following these few simple rules should help keep that smile bright
