VEVET STUDIOS

CZECH REPUBLIC, PRAGUE

Despite its transformation into a shopping district and economic hub, Narodni Trida lacks an architectural symbol that projects its culture and cosmopolitan identity. Most of its existing ‘monuments’ refer to a commu-nist past and become anachronistic when confronted by the 21st centurys energy and diversity of this Europe. The overarching aim for this programmatic hybrid is to redefine the exist-ing and historic typology so that it responds to a twenty-first century city location. The site needs to create a buffer zone between the Old and New Town Town of Prague. The intention is that the Cultural Centre would form part of the urban fabric, offering possibilities for public inhabitation to establish a performance hub for the City. The complex arrangement of accommodation, market spaces, workshops, studios and performance spaces create an interesting and challenging juxtaposition between the roughness of industry and the delicacy of art. Celebrating its connection and fragile relationship with the landscape through seasonal performance festivals and events.

GREENWICH CULTURAL GARDEN

GREENWICH, LONDON

Once the Greenwich peninsula was a patchwork of river sediments, timber wharfs and steel mills. The design reflects upon this rich cultural and ecological tapestry in a bold and contemporary manner. The design is based on strong contrast between a series of intimate garden mounds and a large field for events. The gardens are not for the ecologically faint hearted; they show a horticultural extravaganza which includes mist gardens on the river Thames. The selected plants represent the diverse soil types as found in the original Lambeth Marsh and express all seasons; not just spring and summer. A series of wooden board walks reminiscent of the former timber wharfs. People can connect to the park through a walkway that connects to the North Greenwich Tube Station. The design proposal is a statement of intent; an open invitation for further exploration.

MEDIA HOUSE OF PECKHAM

NOTRTHFLEET, DARTFORD

Peckham has a very strong cultural presence in London. It is submerged in the heart of cultural development in the city. The Media house plants itself at the heart of rye lane and draws in the people from the surround-ing communities. The Media house is designed for the youth of Peckham so that they can become part of the activity on the rye lane strip.
