Dear Members,

My first three months as your General Manager have been extremely exciting. Upon my arrival the Board was in the process of presenting a golf course renovation, which was put on hold. After the January board election, your new Board of Governors put out a survey for guidance and direction concerning the project. The resounding response is clear, you want the course renovated and returned to the pristine condition this great layout was once in. We all agree that our current deficiencies make our task of providing great quality turf throughout the year extremely difficult. These issues resulted in the course struggling through the winter months. This challenge was met with a KemperSports team effort utilizing corporate agronomists and consultants who developed and instituted a plan and with help from Mother Nature, returned favorable playing conditions.

In food and beverage, Chef David Rodriguez, Jose Mera and our entire talented culinary and service teams have created exciting options for our members. The number of members partaking in our Chop House, Thursday Prime Rib Night, Sunday Brunch and daily happy hour continues to grow and receive positive accolades. Please remember to make reservations early to assist us in making sure we meet and exceed your expectations.

Throughout the clubhouse we will be tackling projects that include carpet replacement, furniture repair and replacement as well as painting and wood repair. The majority of these projects will be done throughout the summer months. So for those members who leave Miami Beach during the hot and humid season, we look forward to having a fresh new look when you return. I will continue to keep you updated on our progress in our weekly email blasts.

On Monday, May 4th we begin our off-season schedule which is located on our website, www.lagorecc.com. As a reminder, the entire club will be closed on Mondays during the summer months and dinner will be served on Friday and Sunday evenings. We will feature a monthly Prime Rib night so please keep an eye on the website and club information sent out by our Membership and Marketing Manager Brittany Fierman.

I thank you for the great welcome you have given me and look forward to a great summer. For those members who depart beautiful Miami Beach for the other land they call home, have a wonderful summer and we eagerly await your return.

Regards,

Richard J Martino

General Manager

Greetings from the Golf Professional Shop,

Over the past few weeks many of our Members have inquired on the Club’s handicap policy. I thought now would be a good time to review our policy and ways to make sure your handicap is accurate. Below is the Club policy on score posting. Please note that the golf professional team will post scores each day at the end of the day.

WHo: All LGCC members should post their scores within 48 hours of completion of their round.

WHat: All rounds of golf need to be posted. There are a few exceptions such as scramble and alternate shot formats. Inquire to the Golf Shop staff if you have any questions.

WHat IF: You only play part of a round? Because of rain or having to leave the course early. If 13 or more holes are played, the player must post an 18-hole score. If 7 to 12 holes are played, the player must post a nine-hole score. In either case, scores for unplayed holes must be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes.

Example: A player with a course handicap of 30 stops playing after 16 holes because of darkness. Hole 17 is a par 3 and is the number 18 handicap-stroke hole. The player will record 3 (par) plus 1 handicap stroke for an X-4 on hole 17. Hole 18 is a par 4 and is the number 12 handicap-stroke hole. The player will record 4 (par) plus 2 handicap strokes for an X-6 on hole 18.

WHere: This includes all rounds at LGCC as well as those rounds played elsewhere!

WHen: All scores should be submitted within 48 hours of completing your round.

HoW: There are many ways to submit your score. Just provide course name, score, date, tee, slope and course rating as follows:

• DropyourscorecardinanyofthescorecardboxesprovidedthroughouttheCluborjustdrop it in the Golf Shop

• CalltheGolfShop• Textoneoftheprofessionalstaff• Emailoneoftheprofessionalstaff• UtilizetheUSGAGHINapplicationtoenteranawayscore

Thank you for your help with ensuring that scores are posted in a timely manner.

1) The most simple use for the alignment stick is to put the stick on the ground against the toe end of your golf club. This will help show you where your clubface is pointed and help be more precise with your shots. You can also align the stick along the toes of your feet which should be parallel to your club face.

2) Another great use is to put the stick in the ground on the same angle that your golf club sits. The alignment stick should be about 3 feet behind the ball and be stuck into the turf so that it replicates how the club looks at address. This will help in getting you to take the club away properly by not hitting the stick by going underneath it on the way back.

If you have any questions on how to set these two drills up please feel free to ask any of the golf professionals on staff.

Your dedicated tennis staff have organized some events that will get the tennis word around La Gorce.

The first La Gorce tennis Pro-Am tournament took place on March 7th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and it offered a competitive environment as well as a friendly and positive vibe with high level quality tennis of a 4.0 and above tennis rank. All members were invited to be part of this tournament as spectators. We had 8 members sign up, each and every one of them teamed up with the best tennis pros in the region to play doubles. It was great fun and we plan on organizing many more similar events.

Slower courts such as clay allow for more time to change shot direction. When you watch matches being played on television such as the French Open, being played on clay courts, you will notice how often the players move from side to side. The clay slows their shots down and allows players to move the ball with less risk of errors.

Faster surfaces like grass or hard courts are more difficult to change direction on. The more pace on the ball, or the harder you hit it, the safer it is to play it back to the same spot. That doesn’t mean you can’t change the direction of the ball; you just have to be choosier about when you do it.

SuMMer WILL be Here beFore you KnoW It, and with that, many of you are planning individual, couple and family vacations. trips are a great way to spend time with loved ones, take a break from the stress of everyday life and allow yourself some time to truly unwind. All of this sounds lovely, but please don’t let your fitness training fall off track during this year’s summer vacation.

Staying Fit While in Vacation Mode

Unless you are injured or recovering,

globetrotting is no excuse for allowing your workouts to get pushed to the backburner. Just as you check out the best hotels and attraction visits, also make checking out your fitness options a priority as you plan your trip. Continue to move your body and plan on getting a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity every day. A quick workout before you start your day is still efficient if you opt for high intensity. Think of replacing those holiday Piña Coladas with Pilates; cycle through the tuscan wine country, run the original marathon route in Greece; hike the Inca trail in Peru; do laps & leg raises in the ocean/pool; pack light weights & resistance bands in your suitcase; bodyweight train in your hotel room; take up surf lessons in Bali; powerwalk on the beach at sunset; or trust in the good old standby…a workout in the hotel gym. There are a plethora of ways that you can continue your exercise regimen while away from home — and if you have any doubts, please ask one of the trainers or myself in the Fitness Center for more ideas & tips.

And with energy expenditure (exercise), please do not forget about energy intake (calories). Tip #1: when traveling through airports, it is always wiser to pack your own healthy snacks vs munching on say a Starbucks blueberry crumb cake (800 calories) or Cinnabon (700 calories) while waiting to board the plane. Pack fresh fruit, veggies, dips and sauces (3.4oz or less of hummus, almond butter, or salsa), or other savory snacks like kale chips, homemade trail mix of dried fruit and nuts, or beef jerky. Tip #2: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate on those long flights. Dehydration due to recycled airline cabin air is a major cause of fatigue, and fatigue in turn, makes you want to eat. Tip #3: While relaxing at the pool, watch how many of those frozen drinks you consume (alcohol & processed fruits are filled with a lot of sugar and empty calories), or how many helpings of potato salad and chips you eat at the summer BBQs. Yes, they are all
