iPod Touch 4th Gen - Disassemble Guide

The repair of the iPod Touch 4th Generation, can be both simple and inexpensive if you follow the steps of this disassemble guide. To assist you in completing the repair, the steps we have provided will help you quickly, and safely, replace a broken display, along with other internal components that may have become damaged.

• Using the heat gun or blow dryer, soften theadhesive surrounding the display assembly thatsecures it to the case of the unit.
• Using the plastic opening tool, pry the displayassembly away from the iPod Touch case. Bemindful of the ribbon cables still attached at thetop of the unit.

The display assembly has two connections to the motherboard. Use the spudger to gently pry up on the first display assembly connection that is plugged into the motherboard.
• The second ribbon wire still attached will be disconnected later. With just one connection removed, there is enough space to maneuver the display in order to continue the disassembly.
* Do not try to remove the display assemblycompletely from the unit.

• Locate and remove the eight small Phillips screws (#00) that secure the metal cover plate into the iPod Touch 4th Gen.

There is a small metal clip that secures the rear-facing camera into the upper corner. Use the spudger to pry this clip off the camera.
Use the flat end of the spudger to lift the metal cover plate out of the iPod Touch and expose the motherboard.
• Locate and remove the two Phillips screws (#00) that secure the top portion of the motherboard into the iPod Touch 4th Gen.
• Using the spudger, lift up and release the rear-facing camera from its housing in the iPod Touch.
Step 9 – Headphone Jack
• Use the spudger to pry up and remove the connection for the headphone jack.

• Locate and remove the single Phillips screw (#00)that secures the headphone jack into its housing inthe iPod Touch 4th Gen.

• With both the connection and the securing screwremoved for the headphone jack, remove thepiece from the iPod Touch with the spudger.
• The iPod Touch speaker is in the opposite corner of the phone. Pry it out of its location using the spudger.

*Do not try to remove the speaker from theiPod Touch; its connection is soldered to the motherboard.
• The battery is secured to the back of the case withadhesive. Use the spudger to pry up and releasethe battery from the iPod Touch 4th Gen case.

• The last piece holding the motherboard into theiPod Touch is the charging dock port. Use thespudger to pry this piece out of its location; thiswill completely release the motherboard from theiPod’s case.
*Do not try to remove the motherboard fromthe iPod Touch, there is one more ribbon wire still attached.
• With the motherboard released from the iPodTouch 4th Gen case, flip the motherboardassembly out as if you were opening a book.
*Be careful with the ribbon wire that is stillattached for the volume buttons.

• The display assembly connection is covered withtape that needs to be removed. Once the tape isremoved, use the spudger to disconnect thedisplay assembly connection.

• Locate and remove the two small Phillips screws(#00) that secure the bracket for the volumebuttons with the appropriate screwdriver.
• Next, locate and remove the two Phillips screws(#00) that secure the power button into the top ofthe iPod Touch case.
*One of the screws is hidden behind the ribboncable for the power button itself.

• With all the screws for the power and volumebuttons removed, use the spudger to peel up theribbon cables. You can now remove the entireassembly from the iPod Touch 4th Gen.

• Using the spudger, pry up and remove the WiFiantenna from the iPod Touch.

Step 21 – Front-Facing Camera
• Use the spudger to disconnect the front-facingcamera by prying the connection up and removingthe camera from the iPod Touch.
• Just like the front-facing camera, use the spudger to disconnect the rear-facing camera. Pry the connection up and remove the camera from the iPod Touch 4th Gen.
