KOALA TALK
FEBRUARY 2011
The annual Illinois Standards
Achievement Test (ISAT) will take
place for all third- through fifth-
grade students the week of
Feb. 28.
Group testing will conclude on
Friday, March 4, and make-up
testing will be conducted during the
week of March 7. All testing must
be completed by Friday, March 11.
The students and staff in grades
three through five have worked
incredibly hard all year preparing
for the tests. Parents can assist
their children in preparing for these
exams by:
Making sure their child is
present everyday and arriving
at school on time.
Making sure their child has a
well balanced break-fast.
Enforcing a proper bedtime.
The ISAT results will be used in
conjunction with CBM test results,
other standardized tests, and
classroom as-assessments to help
us better service the needs of all
students in the future.

The Indian Prairie Project Arrow PTA is sponsoring a screening of "Race to Nowhere" on Thursday, February 24 at 7 pm at Waubonsie Valley High School. The documentary "Race to Nowhere" was inspired by a series of wake-up calls that made the filmmaker look closely at the relentless pressure to perform that children face today. A concerned mother turned filmmaker aims her camera at the high-stakes, high-pressure culture that has invaded schools and children’s lives, creating unhealthy, disengaged, unprepared and stressed-out youth. Tickets can be purchased for $10 in advance at Race to Nowhere Tickets or $15 at the door. Ticket price is set by the film's distributor.
"Race to Nowhere"
For more information about the film, visit Race to Nowhere For questions about the event, contact [email protected]
The Next PTA meeting will be February 17, at 7 pm. Please note this is a time change from the original scheduled time of 2 pm.

TERRIFIC JOB STUDENTS IN GRADES 2-5! We are very proud to announce that we have 244 students who have met their AR goals in the 2nd quarter. Congratulations! Just a reminder that the AR goals were based on student’s reading level, daily minutes each grade should read and on the number of weeks students attended school in the 2nd Quarter. Each student’s picture was taken and displayed on Accelerated Readers W anted bulletin board in the LMC. Also, every student received a free book as recognition for a great job. The 3
rd Quarter will end March 25
th. Keep on reading and taking AR quizzes!

Special Needs PTA NEWS
You are Loving
You understand, though, that love means more than hearts and flowers and candy and pretty words. Love may be enough to move mountains, but it helps if you push, too. Loving your child with special needs means working, fighting, struggling, advocating, teaching, training, modifying, guessing, trying, trying again, analyzing, modifying, accommodating,
managing, seeking, pursuing, researching, realizing all the many many things you need to do to help your child and making sure they're done.
There may be hugs and kisses and thank you's and ruffly cards and candy hearts along the way, or there may be frustration and isolation and heartache. But your love is stronger than all of that. And somehow, some
way, your child will love you for it.
