[How To] Install Drivers with .inf Files

Drivers for the following devices can only be installed with .inf files due to

Microsoft’s new policies. To understand how to install drivers for these devices,

please follow the instructions below.

I. Get the latest device driver on MSI website

Search the product and click “Download” under the product name.

II. Install a Device Driver

Touchpad (Synaptics)

FingerPrinter (Synaptics)

Touchpad (Elantech)

Touchpad (Synaptics)

1. Extract the file downloaded from the website to the designated location.

2. Open the extracted folder.

3. Locate the file named “SynPD.inf” (to see the file extension, go to “View” and

enable the “File name extension” option).

4. Right-click the .inf file and click “Install”.

5. When the operaion is complete, click “OK” to close the window.

6. After the file is installed, the installation is complete.

7. Verify if the driver is successfully installed.

a. Right-click on the “Start button” on the task bar.

b. Go to “Device Manager”.

c. Click “Mice and other pointing devices”.

d. Double-click “Synaptics SMBus TouchPad”

e. On the pop-up window, click “Driver”.

f. Check if the“Driver Version” is the same as the version shown on the folder.

(The version shown below may vary due to the future updates.)

FingerPrinter (Synaptics)

1. Extract the file downloaded from the website to the designated location.

2. Open the extracted folder.

3. Locate the file named “synaWudfBioUsbMSISecurePadProd.inf” (to see the file

extension, go to “View” and enable the “File name extension” option).

4. Right-click the file and click “Install”.

5. When the operaion is complete, click “OK” to close the window.

6. After the file is installed, the installation is complete.

7. Verify if the driver is successfully installed.

a. Right-click on the “Start button” on the task bar.

b. Go to “Device Manager”.

c. Click “Biometric devices”.

d. Double-click “Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Reader - USB 086”.

e. On the pop-up window, click “Driver”.

f. Check if the“Driver Version” is the same as the version shown on the folder.

Touchpad (Elantech)

1. Extract the file downloaded from the website to the designated location.

2. Open the extracted folder.

3. If the name of the downloaded folder mentions “SMBus”:

Locate three .inf files (to see the file extension, go to “View” and enable the

“File name extension” option).

If the name of the downloaded folder mentions “PS2”:

Locate two .inf files (to see the file extension, go to “View” and enable the

“File name extension” option).

4. Right-click the .inf file and click “Install”.

5. When the operaion is complete, click “OK” to close the window.

6. For other .inf files, please repeat the steps shown in step 4 and step 5 to install

7. After all the .inf files are installed, the installation is complete.

FingerPrinter (Elantech)

1. Extract the file downloaded from the website to the designated location.

2. Open the extracted folder.

3. Locate the file named “WbfUsbDriver.inf” (to see the file extension, go to “View”

and enable the “File name extension” option).

4. Right-click the file and click “Install”.

5. When the operaion is complete, click “OK” to close the window.

6. After the file is installed, the installation is complete.

e. On the pop-up window, click “Driver”.

f. Check if the“Driver Version” is the same as the version shown on the folder.
