What Is An Orthopedic Knee Replacement Surgery?
1. Knee replacement surgery, also known as knee arthroplasty.
2. Modern surgical procedure, accurately described as "knee resurfacing“.
3. Restores the weight bearing facade of the knee joint.
4. Performed Via the implant of an orthopedic metal and plastic component.
5. Arthroplasty deals with the surgical reconstruction and total replacement of degenerated joints.
Understand The Anatomy of the Knee:
Below are the three most common reasons:
1. Osteoarthritis - This type of arthritis is age related; however, younger people may be affected.
2. Rheumatoid arthritis - also called inflammatory arthritis, occurs when the membrane surrounding the knee joint is inflamated and thick.
3. Post-traumatic arthritis - this type of arthritis is due to a severe knee injury. When the bones around the knee break or the ligaments tear, this will affect the knee cartilage.
When you need a knee replacement surgery?
1. Severe knee pain or stiffness
2. Moderate but continuous knee pain
3. Chronic knee inflammation and swelling

Types of Surgery are:
Different Surgery Methods
1. Kneecap replacement - It is a short surgical procedure with a fast recovery time.
2. Mini-incision surgery (MIS) - Still considered a new surgical technique, it is most commonly used in PKR.
3. Image-guided surgery - Very accurate alternative in positioning the new knee joint, still not a common surgery
4. Arthroscopic washout and debridement - This procedure is not advisable if the patient has severe arthritis.
5. Osteotomy - This is an open operation. Sometimes used for younger people with limited arthritis.
