FREE RANGE DOGS“EVERYBODY LIKES MY DOG”Dogs running at large affect everyone. A roaming dog scares people whoare unable to tell if the dog is friendly or aggressive, bothers other dogs thatare secured in their yard, deposits “goods” on private properties, in parksand along walkways, and increases the potential for spreading disease toother people’s pets. If your dog is running lose, it is unsafe, it affects yourneighbours, makes pedestrians feel uneasy, and puts drivers at risk. Pleasekeep your dog on a leash, in an enclosure, or inyour house.

POOP SCOOPINGThank you to all those dog owners who perform their poopscooping duties! For those dog owners who don’t, this is areminder that your fellow citizens expect you to pick up afteryour dog. If you neglect to scoop you are affecting the

environment, the enjoyment of our parks and walkways, and footwear, strollers, bicycles, rollerblades, and young children who accidentally rompthrough the mess. The next time your dog squats to poop, please squatand pick it up. Bylaw 1487-92 provides for citizens to lay a complaint forinfractions by means of private action through the Court Registry.

Pre-kindergarten Programs

In these recreational based programs we believe children’s playtimeactivities are important to their success. We believe that play enriches a child’s life and helps to determine how they develop socially, psychologically and academically. A free time component, combined with structured activities is the foundation to program planning.

Let’s play a clock game and make our own clocks to take home.

Teeny tiny discoveries. Let’s take a look at food and nature.

Alphabet and practice printing your name.

Learn the days of the week, calendar months and weather too!

There will be lots of gym time to play and learn gross motor skills

CORPORATE PARTNERSEmployee Fitness ProgramA Fitness Program for all Companies

The Recreation Department has developed an employer-supported fitness program. A fit employee feels and worksbetter and, while all Canadian companies benefit frompromoting participation and generating enthusiasm of anactive lifestyle, many Canadian companies have takenemployee fitness programs a step further by supportingtheir own work-related fitness and lifestyle programs. The cost to the company is minimal and the benefits great.

The Employee Fitness Program is currently utilized by:RioTinto Alcan, Methanex, Kitimat General Hospital, KentronConstruction, and the District of Kitimat. You can tailor theprogram to fit your organization’s need.

The companies who promote fitness find it pays dividendsfor both employers and employees: motivation, productivityand morale are up, while illness, stress-related workproblems, turnover and absenteeism are down. Theprograms are cardiovascular-oriented and designed toinclude the whole family; most importantly, the researchshows the programs affect the “bottom line”.

You may say, “Leave it to the employee!”, but your gentlenudge will affect your workplace and the “bottom line”.Some will participate on their own, however, experience hasshown that most will not. With an employer participating ata minimal cost, the employee’s participation rate willincrease by up to 50%.
