    What is KIPP Academy Elementary?

    PP Academy Elementary is a free, public charter school that prepares students for success in college and life. We are relent

    cused on results academic results, character development, and the outcomes that ultimately matter most: graduating fr

    gh school and college, embarking on a career and becoming self-sufficient and happy. KIPPs success is rooted in a few corerinciples that guide everything we do:

    High expectations. We believe that all of our students are capable of remarkable learning and growth and that ourtalented team can and will find a way to achieve those results.

    More Time. There are no shortcuts at KIPP. Our day starts earlier and ends later than at other schools. We hold half-dclasses on many Saturdays as well as summer school for all students.

    Character Counts. We believe that success in school and in life depends on character. During each school day, in evelesson and every interaction, we focus as much on developing character traits such as zest, grit, self-control, hope,

    love, gratitude, social intelligence and humor as we do on academic preparation.

    What sort of results have KIPP schools had?

    Over the last seven years, 93% of KIPP NYC alumni graduated from high school (twice the NYC average for communitsimilar to ours).

    87% of KIPP NYC alumni have enrolled in college (more than twice the national average for communities similar to ou On the 2010 NY State tests, KIPP NYC students outperformed their Districts of Residence (NYC Districts 5, 7, 17) at all

    grade levels by an average of 39 percentage points on the Math exam and 27 points on the English exam.

    92% of our current Kindergarten class tested at least one level above the standard Kindergarten end-of-year reading This past year, KIPP NYC College Preps founding freshman class excelled on their NY State Regents exams, with 91%

    passing Living Environment, 95% passing Geometry, and 97% passing Integrated Algebra.

    What grades will KIPP serve in 2011-12?

    KIPP Academy Elementary School will serve 276 students in grades K-2, and will grow to serve grades K-4. KIPP Academy Middle School serves approximately 260 students in grades 5-8. KIPP NYC College Prep High School will serve over 500 students in grades 9-11, growing to 9-12.

    What is the school schedule and calendar?

    y choosing to enroll at KIPP Academy Elementary School, families and students commit to an extended school day that lasts

    45am to 4:00pm on Monday through Friday. They also commit to attending a Saturday school program that lasts from 9:00

    o 11:00am one Saturday a month, as well as a two and a half-week mandatory summer school session (8:00am to 12:00pm).

    BOUT THE LOTTERY PROCESS

    Do you have to apply to get into KIPP?

    PP Academy Elementary Charter School is a public school open to all New York students that are incoming Kindergarteners.

    commendations, or behavioral history will be taken into consideration. All applications must be received byApril 1st at 5pmail, online at www.kippnyc.org/enroll, or in person.

    How does the lottery work? Do I have to attend the lottery? How will I find out if my child was selected in the lottery?

    PP Academy Elementary plans to enroll 90-95 incoming kindergarteners, including siblings and returning students. If the nu

    f families interested in attending the school exceeds the number of students we can serve, then we will conduct a lottery on

    pril 5th, 2011 at 5:30pm. All students entered into the lottery will have their names drawn by an independent auditor. Ope

    ots will be filled in the following order:

    1. Returning students2. Brothers/Sisters of Current KIPP NYC Students (must attend the same KIPP NYC school)3. Applicants Eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch and Residing in the Community School District4. Applicants Eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch and Not Residing in the Community School District5. Applicants Not Eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch and Residing in the Community School District6. Applicants Not Eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch and Not Residing in the Community School District

    ntil all open slots are filled. Admissions notification letters will be mailed to all applicants on April 13, 2011.

    Do you accept applications for 1st

    and 2nd

    graders?

    While there will be a lottery for 1st

    and 2nd

    grade students, we anticipate that there will be few, if any, open seats. We will no

    ccept applications for 3rd or 4th grade students.

    Can I enter my childs name in more than one KIPP NYC lottery?es. However, you will need to submit a separate application for each school. Each KIPP NYC school holds a separate lottery a

    nrolment process.

    Can I enter the lottery more than once?

    o. Each child may only enter once. Any duplicate applications will be removed prior to the lottery.

    If I entered the lottery last year, do I need to enter again?

    es. There is a new lottery every year. Waitlists do not carry over from year to year.
