Fifty local artists exhibited their works in the auditorium and it was of a very high standard. This year for the first time we introduced a ‘Feature Artist Choice’ award. Our feature artist - Joel Rea - chose a work from the exhibition that caught his eye and the prize was awarded to Bruce Roney (one of our bus drivers). Congratulations Bruce. An encouragement award was donated by Sue Hartley from Rainbow Framing in Palm Beach and this was won by Robyn Robertson. The performances in the amphitheatre were unfortunately interrupted by show- ers, but the crowds still enjoyed the two nights. Congratulations to everyone who put in so much work to make this event a suc- cess every year. (See page 5 for primary art competition winners) Save the date - Saturday June 2 for our 2012 Gala Dinner This will be a night of fine food and great entertainment. This year, money raised will be in support of ‘missioneducate’ - a chris- tian aid organisation that works towards establishing schools and education programs for the people of Mozambique. More details will follow shortly. However, in the meantime, talk to your friends about perhaps organising a table of 8 for this great night. School’s in for Grandmas and Grandpas

It was back to school last Friday for many Noah’s Ark families as children shared their morning with the spe-cial people in their lives.

Art and craft, story reading and outdoor ball skills were popular activities and no doubt brought back memories for our visitors, several of whom had travelled long distances to be here. What a blessing to share with our families in this way.

Parenting with Power

Scripture of the week:

“Above all else guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”

~ Proverbs 4:23

Envision a Positive Future

Take a few minutes and imagine what your children will be like as adults. Some parents have immediate thoughts of terror and doom, but instead, look at the good qualities your children have and imagine how those qualities will benefit them later in life. Then share those observations with your children. Envision-ing a positive future looks beyond the day-to-day discipline and says, “I see qualities in you that are going to make you successful.” Statements like, “with that kind of thoughtfulness you’re going to make a great husband.” Or “your thoroughness is going to make you a valuable employee someday.”

When parents learn to view their children this way, they look past the daily grind of parenting to what their children are be-coming. What is my child good at? What do I see now that will bring success as my child grows? We’ve probably all heard the statement that children believe what we say about them. If a parent tells a child he’ll never amount to anything, he’s likely to incorporate that into his belief about himself and it may end up becoming true. We can take that same principle and teach our children to see the good in themselves, the specific ways that God has blessed them. Interestingly enough, giving our children a positive vision for the future encourages them to live up to it now. The qualities we focus on end up being the ones they see in themselves and develop. Envisioning a positive future gives our children hope and direction. It says, “you’re going to make it.” “I believe in you.” It’s a way to honour our children. Like giv-ing them a gift that will last a lifetime, a hopeful way of looking at themselves and their life. After all God does this for us on a regular basis. Verses like Philippians 1:6 give us hope to live now to the fullest. “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Strategy for the week: Really encourage the qualities that you see in your children. Focus on them and build into them the real-ity that they are God’s child and worth so much that Jesus died for them. When they know that you really believe in them they will re-spond positively.

~ In His service,

Klaus Knobloch and Rosemary Whincop

SecondaryEaster

At this time let us remember the great sacrifice and love of Jesus our Saviour and His Father’s love.

A Thought for EasterAnd Jesus kneeled down, and prayed, “Saying, Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from me:nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done. And being in agony He prayed more earnestly:and His sweat was as it were great drops of bloodfalling down to the ground.”(Luke 22:42, 44 KJV) A Thought for EasterHad Christ refused to bear the crossAnd fill the Father’s plan,Perhaps a new way could have beenPrepared for fallen man.Yet Jesus chose to set aside Earth’s trappings that would bind,And He alone is worthy now:Saviour of all mankind.Throughout the ages He will beEternal Sovereign Lord,Rejoicing for eternity ...He chose Heaven’s reward! --Connie “Looking unto Jesusthe author and finisher of our faith;who for the joy that was set before Himendured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right handof the throne of God.”(Hebrews 12:2 KJV) Jesus came down my ransom to be;O it was wonderful love! For out of the Father’s heart He came,To die for me on a Cross of shame,And from sin’s bondage to reclaim;O it was wonderful love!Emmanuel Rolfe

Happy parenting. I wish you Jesus. A choice to make. Remem-ber God’s esteem. Ideal Valentine. I’ll keep you in my prayers. Why/How.

Hair Regulations for BoysReminder for parents of secondary boys - please ensure that

before returning to school in Term 2 your son has a hair cut. The hair policy for boys can be found on page 6 of the school diary...

Hair must be tidy, short, clear of the collar, ears and eyebrows. All haircuts must be of a conservative style. The spirit of the code is that haircuts should notfollow temporary fads or be attention-seeking. A very small amount of hair product may be used if it helps the student to comply with the code. Hair colour should be natural looking. Students will be excluded from school until hair is acceptable. A final decision on hair will always be at the discre-tion of senior staff.

Love God - Hate EvilQuote from Walk in Faith by Ray McCauley

You who love the Lord, hate evil! Psalm 97:10The only time in the Word of God when the believer is allowed

to have an attitude of hate is toward evil. Think of it - if you have an attitude of hate toward any other person then you are wrong. God loves all people and He commands that we, as His disciples, should love also. In fact, this is how the world will know that we are His disciples, by our love.

Hate at its best will distort you, and at its worst, will destroy you and it will always immobilise you.

If you want to move forward in the things of God then remove an attitude of hate from your life.

The Word tells us to forgive as we have been forgiven. Let’s be sciptural.

Do not bear grudges or carry animosity towards others. Love God and hate evil.

Sport NewsNews from the King’s Locker Room

While this term has flown past it is incredible to think back and look at all we have crammed into these 10 weeks. Here are a few of the highlights:• Launching of our new sporting program “KATS” which stands

for King’s Academy of Training and Sport. Under this name come all of our sporting programs. Keep an eye out in weeks to come for our new KATS mascot and our new KATS war cry.

• The weekly article “News from the King’s Locker Room” was implemented to keep parents and students up to date with everything sporting going on. We hope you enjoy.

• We employed James Clark who is now heading up our Athletics and Cross Country programs in conjunction with Trishelle Grady and Jarrod Stephens. I’m sure all their hard work with our students will pay off this year but even more so in the next few years to come.

• We designed and made available to all students the new King’s BSC skins and our new King’s Kooga training and com-petition singlet. These are going to look amazing!

• We now have the best group of teachers and outside profes-sional coaches of any APS school coaching and developing our rugby program at King’s. Again these results will show this year but even more so, over the next few years.

• I personally have been to nine swimming carnivals this term and have loved seeing everyone get in and have a go and do their best. We certainly have some swimming super stars.

The list could go on and on and let me just say that this is only the start of what we would like to do with sport at King’s. There is so much potential at this school and as Mrs Oswald says “we have the best kids in the whole world”. I cannot wait to see what we can do if we continue to all band together and keep this push going in the area of sport. I hope you all have a great holiday and combine relaxing and good times with family and friends with lots of training ready for Term 2. Bring it on!!

~ Jason Grady, Director of Sport (P-12)

Running Club Rant (Week s 4 to 6)

My apologies to everyone for not getting the earlier week’s running club rant articles, but here it is.

During week 4, our running club group again did the Heart-break Hill time trial. We had numerous students shave huge chunks off their previous results. Some students reported to me that they improved their time by over one minute!!!! Grade 6 stu-dent Leah Simpson ran 7.30mins over the course this time, beat-ing the previous course record by seconds. Well done Leah.

Week 5 of our training program was the beginning of a new training cycle, and the difficulty of the sessions has increased. Our students by this point are now fit enough to increase their interval lengths, whilst at the same time have less rest between runs than usual. The vast majority of the group is stepping up to the challenge, and I am very proud to see that there is definitely a feeling of increased confidence in the group. The culture change is now beginning to become apparent, and this will be the foun-dation of further development towards our school being an APS threat to our rival schools for this season, and more importantly, the future.

This Thursday will be the big moment for all our runners.....the King’s cross country champs. I will be attending this event, and will be closely observing each age group. For those that have been training with the running club week in week out....you are READY. Everybody will experience fatigue and pain during the race, but the strong athletes will resist the urge to slow down or stop. Endurance races such as cross country running will not only test your fitness, but also your mental strength. You need to be resilient, tough, and have a “never-give-up” attitude when it comes to cross country, otherwise you will never succeed in reaching your true potential.

So I urge all students to rise up to the challenge, and aim to qualify for a spot in the school APS team (top 10 placings in each age group will be invited). Remember, our school this year is offering some very “lucrative incentives” to any placings (both teams and individual placings) that we achieve at the APS car-nival. So eat healthy and drink plenty of water leading up to the event, get plenty of sleep the night before, and run a good strong race. And to those students who are considering just walking or going slow because they are either lazy, or think it’s not cool to run, or both, I say this to you.....wake up to yourselves!!! Keep up that attitude in life and I guess you can look forward to getting a start on the show “The Biggest Loser” when you are older.

Yours in cross country,

~ James Clark, King’s Head Cross Country/Athletics Coach

Rugby Schedule for Easter Holidays and Term 2

The 1ST XV rugby programme continues over the Easter Holi-days, with the team continuing training as well as playing a game against Melbourne Grammar School.

The team will also be training every Wednesday after school from 3.30pm – 5.00pm during Term 2, beginning in Week 1.

In order for the 1st XV to be sufficiently prepared and in the best position possible to have a successful APS campaign, all boys are expected to be available for all games and training ses-sions over the Easter Holidays and during Term 2.

Round 1 will be played against All Saints Anglican School [away] on the first Friday of Term 2.

Secondary NewsHike For Hope!

On the 20th March, over 700 high school students took to the beach to take part in Hike for Hope. The event started at Talle-budgerra and concluded at Palm Beach. Despite the indecisive weather and unexpected downpours, both students and teach-ers had an enjoyable experience. Both staff and students enjoyed their walk on the beach, or for the sporty type, battling it out to win. Up the front was fierce competition for 1st place and the cash prize. It was a tight race between Bernie Lierse and Jake Meyers, but a tragic trip from Bernie at the finish, resulted in Jake being victorious. After the race, the Year 11 Event Management course students organized an amusing game of touch football for all ages.

Last year the Hike for Hope fundraiser raised a very commend-able amount of $10,000 overall. This year, however, the Hike for Hope team of staff and students are eager to surpass the amount; aiming at approximately raising $12,000. The money raised sup-ports local and international charities such as: King’s Kids Uganda, Rosies, The Fred Hollows Foundation and the Salvation Army. The

fundraising booklets have raised over $7,000, the Hike for Hope BBQ and bake sale approximately $2,000, and another $893 from the Tyndale House BBQ Challenge sets the amount close to last year’s record and well on the way to this year’s target.

“Coming 9th place in the race meant a lot to me, it made me feel like an absolute champion. I had lots of fun,” commented David Boniwell, a Year 11 student who actively participated in the event and the behind the scenes preparation work in the build up to the ‘hike’. No matter what place people came on the day, the event itself was a success.

Overall, the smooth running of the event is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Mr Upton, Mr Schweitzer, Mr Knight, Ms Butler, the college Prefects and Year 11 Event Management team.

Thank you to all who attended and made the day ‘hopeful’.
