Description

Cooper Fire Systems 300 series range ofintelligent analogue sensors were developedin conjunction with the CF3000 range ofanalogue addressable fire panels utilising ournewly developed Cooper digital protocol- CLogic. The CAP320 analogue photoelectric smokesensor is designed to provide an earlyresponse to slow smouldering fires and assuch, is primarily used for life protectionsystems.Within the stylish, low profile housing theCAP320 incorporates several new designfeatures. The electronic 'heart' of the detector wasdesigned around the very latest inmicroprocessor and electronic componenttechnology. This together with, innovativecircuit design, is then complimented by acompletely new infrared light emitting diode, photo diode layout and labyrinth chamberdesign. The sensor LED has a dual function, in normalcondition it can be programmed to 'blink' orremain off, when the sensor is being polled bythe panel.

In a fire activated condition the LED isswitched on continuously. The sensor electronics combine the very latestin microprocessor control and addressabledigital communications. This combinationtogether with the special sensor algorithmsand the system stability provided by theCLogic digital protocol virtually eliminateunwanted alarms due to transient noiseconditions. The CAP320 is designed to respond tointerrogation and control signals from thecontrol and indicating panel, using the digitalsystem protocol it communicates status, location, type and various other systeminformation, that initialises the panel toactivate the required, pre-programmed alarmsequence, if a fire condition is detected. The CAP320, as with the rest of the 300 seriesanalogue sensor range, fits onto a commonbase (CAB300) by a simple twist and lockmovement. The base is provided with aselectable sensor locking device, which onceapplied, the sensor can only be removed bymeans of a special tool.

Technical Data

The CAP320 analogue photoelectric sensor operateson the principle of transmitted infrared light beingscattered by the ingress of smoke into a light prooflabyrinth. An infrared light emitting diode (IR LED) and a photodiode are arranged within the lightproof labyrinth at anobtuse angle to each other, such that, in clean air, thephoto diode receives no light directly. When smokeenters the chamber it scatters photons from the IR LED

on to the photo diode in an amount relative to the smoketype and density. The photo diode generates an analogue signal, proportional to the amount of receivedlight, this is then processed within the sensor, microprocessor based, electronics and passed to theanalogue to digital converter for digital processing of thegenerated analogue signal, ready for transmission whenthe device is interrogated by the main panel.
