“Rock Star“ of Results

Dear readers,

I had a meeting with a former Number 1 Distributor of a Direct Selling Company a

few days ago. Not just the Number 1 Distributor for his country, but at one point,

he was the number 1 Distributor internationally. Before meeting with him, I met

a mutual friend, a former representative of his Upline. He was the one that orga-

nised for us to meet knowing that I work heavily with many of the leading Direct

Sales Teams around the globe.

“You are going to meet a „Rock Star” my friend exclaimed, and with that we headed off to enjoy a quick lunch.

Had it been a few years earlier, I would

have been excited and utterly over-

whelmed to meet someone that would

fit in with my wild description of what

a successful person in business, a Rock

Star would be like. I recall as a teenager I

would look at successful people and Rock

Stars as those who lived in a different

world all together. They were just differ-

ent from the average person. They had

all the great things in life, they loved what

they did, made an insane amount of mon-

ey, and it seemed like they were in con-

trol of things. Most important of all, they

were having fun doing what they wanted

and chose when they wanted to do it.

How Lucky they were indeed! I wished

that one day I could be someone like that,

hopefully if I too could somehow get a bit

lucky.

Today, I’m fortunate to be constantly

travelling across five continents Inspir-

ing and Informing Audiences, many of

of whom are in the Direct Sales Industry.

In the process, I have been blessed with

the opportunity to meet, rub shoulders

with and enjoy countless hours with Rock

Stars from different walks of life. Time

after time, what becomes apparent to me

is the fact that these individuals are “Nor-

mal” people. Nothing fancy about them –

normal people that would walk past you

without standing out in any particular

way, shape or form.

By attaining a significant amount of wis-

dom over time, my theory that success-

ful people lived in a different world was

confirmed. Indeed Rock Stars did live

in a different world – but it was only dif-

ferent because of the thoughts that went

through their heads! Those thoughts

having been translated into actions lead

to the vast differences we witness in their

results when compared to most people.

So going back to our meeting. Our mutual

friend introduced me to a very Normal-

looking and pleasant young man- The

Rock Star. He would have been in his

early thirties, 5’8”, medium built, short

black hair, thick eyebrows, clean shaven

wearing a a short sleeved shirt and a pair

of bleached jeans. He was just like any

other person I would have encountered-

a normal person. Nothing about him

“screamed” ROCK STAR. However, his

results told a different story.

Hearing him speak about all his accom-

plishments including becoming the top

Distributor in his company, I put a series

of questions to him that came to me natu-

rally. What drives you? What makes you

the successful the person that you are in

every venture that you have decided to do?

What keeps you going?

He laughed and said, “Don’t you want

to know The Secret behind my success?

That’s the first question I get asked all the

time by everyone – What’s your Secret for

Success?”

My reply was very simple – “Yes, it may be

a secret, but I know that what is a secret to

many is in plain sight for everyone to see

and do. I know that your secret lies in the

thoughts you have had, the decisions you

have made and the actions you have taken.

I am more interested in your thought pro-

cess because I know that in there lies your

secret to success”

I then leaned back in my chair and en-

joyed the enthusiasm with which this

“Rock Star” began to divulge his Secret.

Speaking specifically about what helped

him become Number 1 in his Direct Sell-

ing Business, he said, “My Upline already

had a network of a few thousand people

and didn’t think much of me when I joined

the business. But then I met with him and

told him that I was serious about becom-

ing successful.”

The Upline (our mutual friend) smiled at

me and nodded in agreement saying that

he knew he was dealing with a winner,

when he heard the “Rock Star” say, “Fail-

ure didn’t exist.”

The “Rock Star” then continued, “Failure

didn’t exist for me, because it was never

an option. It was either become success-

ful, or become successful. You see, I didn’t

have failure as an option because where

I was in life was already a low point. I

could only see up. I could only be up. I

had to become successful. I had to get to

my dreams. As far as I could see, there

was no going back. There was no other op-

tion. The only option was to succeed.” He

continued, “I wasn’t that talented. I wasn’t

better than anyone. But I tell you what I

had. What I did have was a burning desire

and A Compelling Reason to make things

happen.”

He said, that the burning desire is some-

thing you lock your vision to, the house the

car, the boat, the travel, the time freedom.

It is what gives you the sense of direction

and sense of focus. The compelling reason

is what to him was where he was in life.

The pain and suffering of how he was liv-

ing had him get to a point where it became

unacceptable. He knew he could be so

much better.

Enough was enough

His comments came from the heart. You

could see he meant every word, more im-

portantly, you could feel it. His words were

coming as proof of what he had achieved.

His compelling reason was the driver that

pushed him everyday and it was the back

stop that wouldn’t allow him to go back.

In fact, in his own words he said, “You

can’t even look back. There was no way,

no option. The only way was to move for-

ward towards what I wanted, gravitated

by my burning desire, and powered by my

compelling reason.”

So in essence I said, you burning desire

and compelling reason combined to give

you the secret weapon I share in my first

book Winning The Game Of Life, and that

is The Secret Weapon of Persistence.

“Exactly!” snapping his finger and wear-

ing a big smile, confirming the one word

he was intending to arrive at.

“Kevin, what I have is persistence. I just

keep going and I don’t know how to stop.”

The results you seek don’t get created

overnight like many would like to believe

it so desperately be so. It comes from the

sheer persistence, the constant push to-

wards that burning desire, and the endless

energy from the compelling reason that

keeps you moving forward.

The combination of the two, was what

gave this “Rock Star” his single most im-

portant ability that have got him results in

the past, is getting him results today and

will continue to do so moving forward.

What will you dare to be, have, do and give?

What is your burning desire? The vision

you will lock onto?

What is your compelling Reason? The rea-

son that won’t allow you to look back.

What this “Rock Star” shared was some-

thing I have found common amongst

many leaders in the Direct Selling Indus-

try, Home Business, Fortune Five Hun-

dred companies, Sports Teams and the

like. This is a common Secret Weapon. A

weapon used by all those who are winning

in their game of life: You must develop and

master The Secret Weapon of Persistence.

We all have our down days. We all have

and will have our set of challenges. We will

be hit and knocked about living through

life. But at the end of it all, every normal

person by nature who is a Rock Star of

Results has had to learn that, Your Persis-

tence can and will outlast the Resistance.
