10th Anniversary of the Madden Arts CenterAugust 2014 was a big month for the Madden Arts Center as we celebrated the 10th anniversary of this beautiful historic building. Thank you to everyone who helped recognize this milestone with such flair, particularly local art collectors who loaned their favorite pieces to the

exhibit, our community arts partners who displayed their passion for various art forms at the opening party, and the visual and performing artists who shared their talents at the gala.

Many generous people from throughout our community contributed to the 10th anniversary fundraiser and, with your help, we are thrilled to report that we have surpassed our goal of $300,000. PASS Season Is HereThe Performing Arts Series for Students (PASS) begins its new season in October. Six live shows for area students are offered to teachers and home school groups. These performances educate while they entertain. All of the shows are held at Millikin University’s Kirkland Fine Arts Center. Find more at www.decaturarts.org/classes-programs/PASS.

Study guides to emphasize learning objectives are sent to the participating schools, so lessons in math, science, history, language, and more take root through the power of the arts.

Through the support of our generous sponsors, DAAC has been able to maintain the high quality expected from PASS, now in its 44th year.• Tate & Lyle North America, Inc.• ADM• Amherst Hardy Foundation• John Ullrich Foundation Trust• Kirkland Fine Arts Center• Illinois Arts Council Agency

This year... Thanks to a grant from Homefield Energy, we are able to offer many more bus trans-portation scholarships to classes that wish to at-tend. Symphony Orchestra Guild of Decatur will once again pay for buses for Decatur 3rd and 4th grade classes for the final program in April 2015.

Is your child’s class or school participating? If you would like your child to take advantage of this ex-cellent opportunity, contact your school’s principal and teachers.

Online Registration and PaymentIt’s easier than ever to buy a ticket to a DAAC event or register for a class. We’ve integrated an online puchase/registration option right into our web-site. Once you decide on the activity that you would like to join, just click and pay.

DAAC Offers GrantsNeed a choreographer for that school play? Want a writer to work with students on poetry or descrip-tive prose? Like to present a workshop?

The Decatur Area Arts Council offers grants that support and promote arts events and learning ex-periences where the arts are the main focus. Check out our Community and Education Grant Program Guidelines and Application online at www.decaturarts.org/grants.

Qualified applicants are schools and non- profit organizations in Macon County and the towns of Assumption, Clinton, Moweaqua, Pana, and Tay-lorville.

newsbeat what’s happening on the local arts scene

Experience: ART field TripsMake sure your kids or grandkids “meet” art! Kids will never get to know, appreciate and enrich their lives with art un-less they are introduced to it. Ask teachers you know to consider DAAC’s field trip program for school groups, home school, and other youth groups! Experience: ART is available throughout the school year for preschool through eighth

graders to tour the current gal-lery exhibit and experience a hands-on art workshop related to the exhibit. Special arrange-ments can be made for High School classes. Opportunities include wire sculpture, scratch art, recycled fiber art, as well as painting and drawing with a variety of media. Parents and grandparents, you can sponsor your child’s class! For a sched-ule of available field trip dates during the 2014–2015 school year, contact 217-423-3189.
