This collection documents how plants are used by people, such as for medicine, textiles, cultural, and spiritual purposes. Our collection is one of the only actively curated ethnobotanical collections in the western United States. We currently hold over 300 specimens and are actively adding to the collection. Below are examples of specimens in our ethnobotany materials collection. We included images of the specimens and details about where and what was collected. Uses given are from the source of material and supplemented by well-known uses from a number of literature sources. Kathryn Kalmbach Herbarium Ethnobotanical Collection Ethnobotany is the study of the relationship between plants and people.
