INTERNAL HALYARD LOCK FOR HEADSAILSThe KMH internal halyard lock is a locking device for headsail installed by mast manufacturers. This mechanism is integrated into the mast and enables to maximize the luff length.

• Technology based on our KFH furling lock, proven at sea: reliable and efficient.

• No lashing (economical & safe).

• No trip line: the halyard is used to lock and unlock the system.

• The cover can easily be removed for servicing.

• It is possible to unlock the mechanism from there in case of failure of the halyard, for instance.

• The cover can be customized: carbon, classic or neon colors, woody aspect…

• Electronic position sensor, available as an upgrade.

• As opposed to our KFH external furling lock, the KMH is not designed to be used as a swivel under load.

EXTERNAL HALYARD LOCK (NO SWIVELLING FEATURE)The KHL external lock is a lock for headsails, easy to install. It makes it possible to no longer have tension in the halyard and, avoid wears and stretch for more safety, less weight, and more performance…

• Compact and light.

• Technology based on our KFH furling lock, proven at sea: reliable and efficient.

• Essential product for racing and Super Yacht, but also suited for any cruising yachts.

• Warning! As opposed to our KFH furling lock, the KHL is not designed to be used as a swivel.

The KMH and the KHL may be manufactured with greater working load or custom to your application, upon demand. The design accommodates the smallest possible halyard diameter, but can be adapted for bigger ones.

The key performance factors in the world of sailing

hardware are the efficiency, stiffness and weight.

Every lock mechanism aims to gain these benefits by

replacing ropes by mechanical devices.

Today, the fabrics used to manufacture sails are more

and more advanced (3DL, Titanium, Laminated…) in

order to reduce the overall weight of the sail, but also to

maintain the shape and minimize the loss of power due

to the distortion of the sails over the years. To effectively

taking advantages of the power of this type of sails, it is

important to minimize the possible stretch of the lines.

Installing a lock, disregarding the brand and technology,

makes it possible to avoid halyard stretch, and thus, makes

it possible to release the true power of the sails.

Besides this mechanical concept, the diameter of the

halyard can be reduced as it no longer carries the load

of the sail when sailing. As such, a 12mm halyard in

Dyneema® may be replaced by a 6mm halyard.

Jammers, and their weaknesses (line slipping ,wears &

tears, and maintenance), become ineffective. For a 50’ boat

featuring a 65’ mast, a weight aloft of 15kg would need to

be compensated by several hundred kilos in the keel to

ensure the same stability!

The installation of a halyard lock will reduce the

compression in the mast, as the halyard is no longer under

tension. For high performance sailing yacht, locks may

help to reduce the weight aloft as rigs can be designed to

accommodate to minimal compression.

It would be a mistake to consider these advantages as

dedicated to the racing scene only. A gain in weight aloft

result in a better stability of the boat: it is decreasing the

pitching & rolling in heavy weather. Without seeking the

ultimate performance, anyone would appreciate getting

ashore a few hours or day earlier, without worrying about

the damages on the halyards.

Cruisers know Karver for our furlers, blocks and also our jammers but a lot of our innovations provide solutions to the need of locking or holding tight a halyard, a tack line… expectations that are more and more commons in the world of cruising.

KMS – Headboard car lock Available for the KMS40, KMS60, KMS80, KMS100 & customs. Many Imoca’s and Super Yacht have used it to sail around the world. KMS halyard locks may be customized (internal and/or external locking mechanism, color scheme, dimension…) and can be manufactured to fit any tracks.

KHL – Halyard lock A simple but reliable way to lock a halyard. This product will become a must have on yachts flying a spinnaker for hours or days, and wanting to avoid wears and tears. The KHL is also ideal for the racers looking for more performance.

KHR – Reef lock Originally designed and installed onboard the MOD70’s, the reef locks have become popular in the cruising and Super Yacht scene to solve common problems (overload, many friction points, or slipping jammers). The reef locks enable to avoid stretch in lines and gain weight overall.

KFH – Furling lockThe most famous of our halyard lock! The KFH is leading the market of headsail external halyard locks.Installed on over 70% of the IMOCA fleet, this super compact, light, reliable product can efficiently replace an internal lock on top of which comes a top swivel, as proven at sea for many years already.

KJ Line In a slightly different way, the KJ line (high load jammer, cam cleat, jaw handle, winchless…) simply performs better than any other products on the market when it comes to hold a line, without wearing it.

Based on the KJ jammer design, it’s now possible to sheet-in with just a purchase system using the Winchless.

With 12 years of experience working closely with the top racing teams, we have a clear idea about their expectations regarding the solutions we can offer:Efficiency: Minimizing the effort when handling the system at sea

(least friction, most compact, least movements on deck…)

Stiffness: Minimizing the power loss related to distortion (of the lines, sails…)

Weight: Reducing weight, inertia…

Selecting Karver is today your best shot to get the most out of your mast with a complete line of solutions, standard or custom (over 60% of our products are customs!):

Performance is not a luxury dedicated to top racing teams or Super Yachts. Our solutions are also suitable for cruising, where reliability and safety are the most important factors. Whatever your sailing program or your objectives are, we would be glad to share our experience with you.

You have already made the choice of an efficient carbon mast.
