THE 2014 KANSAS CITY ROYALS POST-SEASON GUIDE IS AVAILABLE ON-LINE AT MLBPRESSBOX.COM FOR ALL THE MARBLES--The 37th seventh game of a World Series will pull the curtain on the 2014 Fall Classic, as the Royals and Giants enter the final game of the year in a 3-3 deadlock...Kansas City sent this series to a deciding game with last night’s 10-0 triumph over San Francisco, buoyed by a 7-run second inning... the beneficiary was 23-year old rookie Yordano Ventura, who fired 7.0 shutout innings allowing just three hits and five walks while fanning four to earn his first World Series victory...the offense unleashed a 15-hit attack, with six starters collecting two hits apiece, the first time that’s happened in a World Series since Boston in Game #1 of the 2007 series...the 10-0 final was the largest shutout victory in a Fall Classic since the Royals were 11-0 winners in Game #7 of the 1985 World Series against St. Louis. IN THE BIG INNING--The Royals scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning last night, marking the highest scoring inning for one team since the Giants posted seven runs in the eighth inning of Game #2 in 2010 against Texas...the last American League team to score at least seven runs in a Fall Classic inning was the Boston Red Sox in the fifth inning of Game #1 in 2007 against Colorado (also seven runs)...last night’s explosion was Kansas City’s highest scoring inning in World Series play, surpassing their previous best of six runs in the fifth inning of Game #7 of the 1985 Fall Classic. THE HISTORY OF GAME 7’S--Tonight is the second World Series Game #7 in franchise history, the other occurring with the previously mentioned 11-0 win over the Cardinals in 1985 for the lone Fall Classic title for Kansas City...the Royals also had a Game #7 in the 1985 ALCS, defeating Toronto after trailing in that series by a 3-1 count...KC has history on its side tonight as the last nine home teams have won the deciding seventh game dating back to 1982 with St. Louis over Milwaukee...the other since then have been: Royals over Cardinals (1985); Mets over Red Sox (1986); Twins over Cardinals (1987); Twins over Braves (1991); Marlins over Indians (1997); Diamondbacks over Yankees (2001); Angels over Giants (2002); and Cardinals over Rangers (2011)...a win tonight would also make the Royals the 20th club in history to rebound from a 3-2 deficit to win the title, the most recent the 2011 Cardinals, who trailed the Rangers heading back to Busch Stadium for Game #6...a victory this evening would also mark the ninth consecutive time since 1982 that a team returned home down 3-2 and won the title. HIT PARADE--Last night was the fourth time in team history that nine players have collected a hit in a postseason game, joining Game #6 of the 1985 World Series vs. St. Louis, Game #2 of the 1978 ALCS against the Yankees and this year’s American League Wild Card Game vs. Oakland...last night was also the second time in World Series history that all nine starters had a hit by the end of the third inning, matching the Arizona Diamondbacks of 2001 in Game #6 vs. the Yankees. ACE’S HAT HEADED TO THE HALL--At just 23 years young, it’s a little early for Yordano Ventura and Cooperstown to come up in the same sentence, but his hat from last night’s game became an official artifact for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum...the hat had included a dedication to Oscar Taveras, whose life ended tragically on Sunday in the Dominican Republic...Ventura inscribed, “RIP, O.T., #18” on the hat in memory of his friend and then donated it following the win. CLIMBING KC’S POSTSEASON LIST--This postseason has seen climb the statistical ladder in franchise history, starting with Eric Hosmer picking up his 19th and 20th hits of this fall to match Willie Wilson’s club record in 1985, each reaching the 20-hit mark in 14 games...Lorenzo Cain has jumped into third on that list with 19 and Alcides Escobar is currently tied with George Brett for fourth with 18...Cain has already set a team mark for runs in a single postseason with 13, two more than Brett accrued in 1985, while Alex Gordon, Lo-Cain and Esky have tied Lonnie Smith’s club record for doubles with five each...Hosmer has also set the team postseason record with 12 RBI entering Game #7, while Mike Moustakas set the team mark for home runs with his fifth last night, one more than Willie Aikens. POSTSEASON RECAP--Kansas City enters tonight with an 11-3 mark this postseason with all three losses occurring in this World Series...KC was the first team in Major League history to open a postseason 8-0, a streak that began with the Royals coming back from a 7-3 deficit in the eighth inning of the Wild Card Game against Oakland to eventually post a 9-8 victory over the A’s in 12 innings...from there, the Royals swept three from the Angels, including the first two in Anaheim via back-to-back 11-inning wins and then kept the dream alive with a 4-game sweeping of Baltimore, taking the first two in Camden Yards and then finishing things off at home with consecutive 2-1 wins...this is just the third time in World Series history that 3-3 tie in the World Series has followed the scenario of road team wins Game #1; home team wins Game #2; road team wins Game #3; home team wins Game #4; home team wins Game #5; and home team wins Game #6...the only other occurrences were in 1982, when the Cardinals defeated the Brewers in Game #7 at home, and in 2002, when the Angels defeated the Giants in Game #7 at home. Royals Notes - San Franisco Giants @ Kansas City Royals - Wednesday, October 29, 2014

This & ThatMOOSE SETS HOMER MARK--The Royals took a 3-2 lead in home runs in this series when Mike Moustakas clubbed his first career World Series blast and fifth of the postseason in last night’s seventh inning...the Royals had clubbed a pair of roundtrippers during the first two games of the series here in Kauffman Stadium with Salvador Perez (Game #1) and Omar Infante (Game #2) each going deep, while the Giants have had home runs from Hunter Pence (Game #1) and Gregor Blanco (Game #2)...with five home runs, Moustakas has set the franchise record for most blasts in a single postseason, a mark that was set by Willie Aikens in 1980...in franchise history, only George Brett clubbed more postseason home runs in his career with 10...last night’s blast by Moose was the 13th World Series homer in franchise history, joining the likes of Willie Aikens (4), Amos Otis (3), Infante, Perez George Brett, Frank White and Darryl Motley...prior to the lineup adjustment last night that had Moustakas hitting eighth, he was just the second ninth-place hitter since 1903 to hammer four home runs in a single postseason, tying Adam Kennedy from the 2002 Angels...Jason Varitek had four in his postseason career from the nine-hole.

LOVIN’ LIFE IN “THE K”--Thanks to John Farrell and the American League All-Star squad, the Royals get to host the seventh game of this 2014 Fall Classic in Kauffman Stadium, where the offensive numbers have been outstanding in this postseason...in the World Series alone, Kansas City has batted .293 (29-for-99) in the three games contested here with an on-base pct. of .346 and a slugging pct. of .495, featuring 11 doubles and three home runs...in the three games played by the bay in AT&T Park, KC hit just .218 (22-for-101) with a .240 on-base and .267 slugging pct., with five doubles as the only extra-base knocks...since this 11-3 run began with the Wild Card Game vs. Oakland on September 30, the Royals have batted .281 here in “The K” (65-for-231) with a .345 on-base pct. and .416 slug while posting a 6-1 ledger...in the seven road games, KC has gone 5-2 with a .235 overall average (59-for-251) with a .289 on-base and .359 slugging pct...on the hill, the Royals have a 3.00 ERA in the seven contests here, limiting the opposition to a .221 team average, while recording a 4.09 mark on the road with a .257 average against.

SOLID VS. SENIOR CIRCUIT--A win tonight would be consistent with the good fortune the Royals enjoyed during the 2014 regular season against the National League...Kansas City posted a Major League best 15-5 mark against the Senior Circuit during interleague play, with all but four of those games occurring against the National League West...KC was 7-3 against the N.L. in Kauffman Stadium and went 8-2 on the road vs. the N.L., losing their first meeting in San Diego before winning eight in a row and then losing the N.L. road finale in Denver...the Royals also swept a 3-game series in August from these Giants.

SCORING FIRST AND SCORING FOUR A GOOD THING--Kansas City ran its 2014 postseason record to 7-0 when scoring first with last night’s 10-0 triumph...the Royals are also 7-0 when plating at least four runs, which is consistent with the club’s success over the last two seasons...KC has put up some phenomenal numbers when the offense has been able to get at least four runs across the plate in a game over the last two seasons...during the regular season, KC was 69-14 when scoring at least four runs and combined with last year (64-14), the Royals are 105 games over .500 during the regular season when scoring at least four runs (133-28).

SHARPENING THE SHORT GAME--The Royals, who finished the year second in the American League in infield hits with 158, have already accumulated 20 infield knocks in this postseason, easily the most of any of the playoff participants this October...the closest competition in infield hits this October are the Giants with eight...Kansas City featured four in the Top 14 individually in infield knocks with Lorenzo Cain tied for third (28), Nori Aoki tied for sixth (27), Alcides Escobar tied for 12th (24) and Jarrod Dyson tied for 14th (22).

HOLLY ROLLS ON--By going 7-for-7 to this point in October, Greg Holland is one save away from setting a Major League record for rescues in a single postseason...his perfect fall to this point has matched the save totals of Brad Lidge (Philadelphia in 2008), Robb Nen (San Francisco in 2002), Troy Percival (Anaheim in 2002), Koji Uehara (Boston in 2013) and John Wetteland (Yankees in 1996)...Holland finished the regular season with 46 saves then followed that with a big league record tying four saves in the ALCS, joining Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley as the only pitchers to accomplish that feat since the ALCS went to a best-of-seven format...while postseason stats are not included in the regular season total, with seven saves to this point Holly has now made good on 53 of his 55 save tries this year, including 46 of the last 47 and 27 in a row...over a longer haul in regular season play, Holland has converted 86 of his last 89 attempts (96.6%) since May 30 of last season, the highest percentage among closers with at least 40 opportunities in that span...since that date, Greg has five more saves than any other pitcher in baseball (Craig Kimbrel - 81) and Holland allowed just 14 earned runs in 113.1 innings for a 1.11 ERA...he recorded his 100th career save on August 8 and since posting his first career save on August 3, 2011 vs. Baltimore, Holland has gone 113-for-123, the best save pct. at 91.9 among closers with at least 100 save opportunities.

WILD CARD WORLD SERIES--This 2014 World Series marks the second time that a pair of Wild Card qualifiers are squaring off for the World Championship, the other occurring in 2002 when these San Francisco Giants battled the Angels, losing the series in seven games to the Halos after taking a 3-2 lead into Anaheim...the Royals rolled through Oakland (Wild Card Game), the Los Angeles Angels (3-0 in ALDS) and Baltimore (4-0 in ALCS) to get to this final stop of 2014.

HOME GROWN ROYALS--It was never a secret that for the Royals to contend, they’d have to do it with the combination of home grown talent and then enhance the roster via the trade and free agent route...of the 25 players on the World Series active roster, 12 were drafted or signed originally by the Royals...the group includes (draft round-year): Terrance Gore (20th-2011), Jarrod Dyson (50th-2006), Alex Gordon (1st-2005), Mike Moustakas (1st-2007), Salvador Perez (non-drafted free agent-2006), Billy Butler (1st-2004), Brandon Finnegan (1st-2014), Yordano Ventura (non-drafted free agent-2008), Eric Hosmer (1st-2008), Kelvin Herrera (non-drafted free agent-2006), Danny Duffy (3rd-2007) and Greg Holland (10th-2007).

AND THE REST OF THE SQUAD--The remaining dozen of the 2014 squad arrived via trades and free agency...that group includes (how acquired): Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain (trade with Milwaukee-Dec., 2010), Josh Willingham (trade with Minnesota-2014), Jeremy Guthrie (trade with Colorado-July, 2012), Omar Infante (free agent-Dec., 2013), Wade Davis and James Shields (trade with Tampa Bay-Dec., 2012), Erik Kratz (trade with Toronto-July, 2014), Nori Aoki (trade with Milwaukee-Dec., 2013), Jason Vargas (free agent-Nov., 2013), Jason Frasor (trade with Texas-July, 2014), Jayson Nix (Waivers from Pittsburgh-2014) and Tim Collins (trade with Atlanta-July, 2010).

ON-THE-JOB TRAINING--This 2014 version of the Kansas City Royals entered the September 30 Wild Card Game with only five players who had previous postseason experience with Wade Davis, Omar Infante, Jayson Nix, James Shields and Raul Ibanez...with Ibanez inactive for the World Series, KC is down to four who have previous experience in October baseball...none of the four active players possess a World Series championship ring.

A LOOK BACK AT ‘14--Kansas City snapped its postseason dry spell with an 89-73 season, finishing one game behind the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central...the rollercoaster ride that was the 2014 season saw the Royals trail by as many as 6 1/2 games after play on June 1, only to reel off a 13-2 stretch to take a 1 1/2-game advantage in the Central on June 18...KC then fell into a 9-18 skid from June 19-July 21 to fall to eight games behind the Tigers, but a win in Chicago on July 22 jumpstarted a season-ending stretch in which the Royals were 41-23 and popped champagne corks for the first time in 29 years on September 26 with a win over the White Sox in U.S. Cellular Field...the two combatants in the ALCS were the two winningest teams in the American League from July 22 on, with the Royals posting 41 victories and the Orioles 42...the 89-victory season marked the most by the Kansas City franchise since winning 92 games in 1989...KC has coupled its last two seasons for a 175-149 mark for a .540 winning pct.

KEEPING IT IN THE YARD--The bullpen duo of Wade Davis and Kelvin Herrera combined for 140.0 homerless innings during the 2014 regular season...Davis tossed 72.0 frames and allowed only five extra-base hits (four doubles and a triple), while Herrera fired 68.0 innings and gave up 12 extra-base knocks (all doubles)...Davis, Herrera and the Dodgers’ Brandon League were the only three pitchers in the Majors who worked at least 60.0 innings with no home runs surrendered in 2014.

DAVIS SETS RELIEF STRIKEOUT MARK--The breakout bullpen year of Wade Davis ended with 109 strikeouts, breaking the team record for a reliever held by fellow bullpen-mate Greg Holland, set last year, and Jim York, a reliever for KC in 1971 (103)...Davis attained his 109 K’s in 72.0 innings for a 13.6 strikeout to 9-inning ratio, the third best mark in the A.L. (minimum 60.0 innings).
