TNX Teaching Notes
1 Use this song at the beginning of the school year or at
the start of term. Walk into the classroom, wave and
say ‘Hello!’ Walk out, wave again and say ‘Goodbye’.
Encourage the children to respond to your greeting.
2 Walk back into the room, waving again, and say
‘Hello!’. Point to yourself and say ‘It’s me’. Point to
your nose and your mouth. Say ‘a nose, a mouth’. Ask
the children to copy your actions. Point to your eyes.
Say ‘One, two. Two eyes!’. Do the same with your
ears. Then include your legs and feet, your arms and
hands, pointing and counting each time. Go through
all the parts of the body again, this time encouraging
the children to repeat the words as they point and
count. When they become more confident, say the
words in a different order and ask them to repeat them
and point to their bodies. Note: if children are learning
the structure ‘I’ve got…’ you can use this when
teaching the parts of the body.
3 Ask the children to stand up and copy your actions.
Stand in front of the class. Play the song and do the
actions: wave as you say ‘Hello!’ at the beginning of
the first three verses and point to your body each time
you sing ‘It’s me!’. Then point to the relevant parts
of your body as the song progresses. Note that each
chorus recycles all the previous parts of the body. In
the final verse use your arms and your hands to wave
as you say goodbye and turn away from the class.
4 Play the song a few times until the children can join in
with the actions and the words.
5 Hand out Worksheet 1 to each child. Ask them if they
can identify the Disney characters on the page: Donald
Duck, Daisy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse,
Goofy and Pluto. Then ask them to say what’s missing
(the pale parts) in each picture:
Donald: mouth
Daisy: eyes
Mickey: feet
Minnie: hands
Goofy: nose
Pluto: ears
Ask them to draw the parts onto each character,
tracing over the pale lines.
6 Hand out Worksheet 2. Ask them to colour and cut
out the parts of the body. Then count and identify
them: head, body, arms, legs, feet and hands. Show
them how to attach the parts of the body together
using split pins.
7 They can attach their puppets to a bamboo rod or lolly
stick with thread or string, hold them up high and
move the separate parts of the puppet’s body. You
might like to play the song again so that they can sing
along and make their puppets dance at the same time.
Extension
8 As an extension activity the children could make up
extra verses for the song to include ten fingers and ten
toes, a body and a head, etc.
