    Architectural Review Committee Member Sought

The Board of Directors is now seeking a volunteer to appoint to the Architectural Review Committee. This committee cur-rently meets every other Friday from 7:30 am to approximately 8:45 am in the Sage Center Conference Room to review requests from owners to make improve-ments and alterations to their individual lots. Utilizing the authority contained in the Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&Rs) for the commu-nity, the Committee ensures that home-owner requests meet the requirements for such improvements stipulated in the Residential Design Guidelines. In addi-tion, the Committee periodically makes recommendations to the Board of Direc-tors for changes to the Guidelines.

Resident members in good standing who are interested in serving on the Architec-tural Review Committee should submit a short application letter requesting ap-pointment to the Committee. In this let-ter, they should outline their qualifications and experience, and express why they de-sire to serve on the Committee. All appli-cation letters should be addressed to the Community Manager, Bruce Friedman at [email protected]. The selection process will include interviews with the finalists. The deadline for application let-ters is June 30, 2013 so interested resi-dents should get their letters to Bruce at their earliest convenience.

Since meeting in Central Oregon in 1989, Terry and Bonnie have literally seen the world together. Avid travelers, their love of a warm, arid climate brought them to Arizona where they now live year-round. Before moving to Arizona, they spent a year in Kailua-Kona Hawaii, where they planned to move permanently. Upon hearing the news that they were about to be first-time grandparents, they decided to settle on the mainland closer to their family. Terry also helps care for his 94 year old mother who lives nearby in Wickenburg.

Terry ran a towing business on the California grapevine for 17 years before moving to beautiful Central Oregon. He then received his real estate brokers license and

actively sold real estate for 22 years. A general contractor, Terry also built a number of homes in the Sunriver area. Terry now enjoys investing in and remodeling real estate as a hobby.

Bonnie began as a registered nurse, leaving the field after 8 years and teaming up with Terry in what became a 17-year real estate career. She also helped with the design end of the homes they built. Bonnie belongs to Papercrafts and More, the Quilting Bees and Crafty Scrappers (of which she has been president for 3 years). She also volunteers in the Caring Neighbors office.

Although technically retired, Bonnie and Terry remain active and can be seen walking the neighborhood in the evenings. They visit their grandchildren often and take great joy in their role as grandparents.

For many years, exercise guidelines have been very generic. Aerobic exercise is recommended most days of the week. Strength training is recommended three times per week separated by rest days. Some have now applied exercise guidelines more specifically to fit a persons blood type. The theory is that an exercise program based on something much more specific in the body will tap into genetic potential and yield better results.

According to The Blood Type Workout created by Joseph Christiano, a naturopath-ic doctor, the type of exercise done should be customized to a persons DNA.

TYPE OThose with type O blood are purported to have genetic makeup closely resembling cavemen who spent a lot of time hunting and avoiding predators. A type o person tends to be stronger and more athletic and may see better results from higher-intensity ex-

ercise like interval training and plyometrics (jumping and explosive movements). For the type O, exercise is used highly as a stress-fighter and mood-booster.

TYPE AA person with type A blood is believed to genetically resemble ancient farmers-very active but with slower, more constant move-ment. The A blood person may be best-served via calming activi-ties for joint protection such as yoga, pilates and tai chi. Intense exercise for the A blood person may cause excessive muscle fatigue and stiff-ness.

TYPE BBelieved genetic ancestors of those with type B blood were nomadic and moved often in packs and often at a less rapid or intense pace. A blood type B person is likely to see better results from low-impact exercise either in group form or possibly cycling.

TYPE ABThe person with type AB blood is considered to be a hybrid having traits of both types A and B. Gentle exercise such as swimming, hiking and dance may be more suitable for the type AB. The high-intensity exercise can lead to heavy soreness and stiffness for the AB.

While little or no clinical research exists to validate the theory of the blood type exercise, creators have plenty of anecdotal evidence to confirm its effectiveness. And from a practical perspective, if the recommendations get someone moving and lets them keep moving, the process may be beneficial.

As always, it is recommended to consult a physician prior to starting any exercise program.
