Hitchens, Holly Fawcett, Toby Ollerenshaw and their families to Kaikorai Primary School!

PRINCIPALS MESSAGESuccess is the theme for this newsletter! It has been extremely

pleasing to learn of all of the achievements of our students

outside of school as they pursue their sporting, academic and

cultural interests. You will find all of the details inside this newsletter. Please

let us know if your child has done something exceptional so that we can

    recognise them in future newsletters.

Well done to the PAL leadership team who recently won the Sport Otago

Winter Sports Extravaganza and also to all of our teams who are competing in

    our local competitions.

It has been a pleasure reading your childs mid year report and you will get a

chance to discuss these at our mid year interviews on July 9-11. We will once

again be using the online booking system at www.schoolinterviews.co.nz, please

congratulations to Ken Cochrane who was reelected chair at the last

    SYNDICATE NEWS

    Senior News

In all classes the children have been working on developing their ideas to make a short clip for our school movie. Skills have been taught and practised through first making short advertisements; including scripting, writing jingles, camera angles, and camera movement. Drama exploration, facial expressions and use of voice, have all been important parts of these developments. It is a lot of fun creating something quite unique. Skills of interdependence have also been a major focus, with the children working in teams, listening, sharing, trialling, giving and receiving critical feedback, and negotiating with each other. There is a lot of highly creative thinking happening, with some classes starting to film this term, and some starting next term.

    Middle News

Te Wiki o te Reo Mori 2013Next week is Maori Language week and the theme is Ng ingoa Mori, Mori names. The Middle Syndicate children will be revisiting their mihi and learning more about Mori names, including place names and names of people we may know. We have been singing songs that fit with our school values, including many that incorporate Mori language. Children have been exploring mid winter traditions, including Matariki and learning more about Mori myths and legends.

Movie making is on the agenda and were all talking about film making techniques. Children may come home talking about types of film shots such as mid shot, close up and makingcomments about the music and sound tracks.

Junior NewsMovie making is the big focus as we script our ideas and very soon film our parts of the movie. It is an exciting time and one we cant wait to share with you. This focus covers drama, music, dance, writing, science and social science as well. What a wonderful way to see the curriculum in action. Brrrr what a wet and cold month we have had. With so much wet weather we are having lots of falling in puddles and muddy accidents. We try and have a supply of clothes at school to change children into but we are short of track pants for boys and tights or leggings for girls. If you have any spare winter clothes for us we would gladly accept them. It is not a bad idea to have a spare set of clothes in your childs bag in case of accidents. If your child wears gumboots to school please let them bring a pair of slippers or soft shoes to wear in the classroom.Thank you to all the parents who have helped this term with PMP, Fun Friday and gymnastics. We will need your help again in Term 3. The dates will be confirmed early in the new term. Please make sure that your child is at school no earlier than 8.30. We have a bell that goes at 8.30 that allows the children into the classrooms. It is not fun for them to have to wait in the freezing cold. Also thank you to the parents who wait outside the rooms to collect children before 3.00 this helps the teachers to pack up without interruptions.

Lunch Time Programme RequestA passive play area is being established outside Room 12 at lunchtimes on fine days. This is an area for children of all ages to get together and play quietly or be involved in quieter playground activities. Much creative and imaginative play takes place in this space. While we do have some equipment, we could use more! If you have any toys that you no longer require at home, Mrs Larkins would happily receive them. We could use things like:

toy cars, trucks or any other vehicles a train set a car track dolls house wooden toys and/or blocks
