24-7 Prayer

As part of the worldwide 24-7 Prayer movement, from 9am on Saturday 31st May to Sunday 1st June parishioners and friends of Carrigrohane Parish signed up for 1 hour slots in which to pray around St. Peter’s Church, Carrigrohane. The church was set up as a prayer venue with creative “stations” to pray around with topics as diverse as remembering your Baptismal vows to praying for issues on the world map, taking time out with God to remembering His beautiful creation. Prayer slots were filled by individuals and groups.

As people left the church after their slot they were encouraged to write down a comment in our prayer record ..here are just a few of the comments:

“The silence and praise were so lovely. “

“thank you for this time of peaceful reflection – I came here thinking it was going to be a chore, but it was wonderful. It’s been so long since I spent this much time in prayer but it was really valuable and refreshing”

“It was great to have the quietness of this hour to reflect on God’s greatness & impact for us & to pray for his forgiveness, guidance & bless-ings.”

“It was a blessing to find Him in the stillness & know myself accepted and loved & to bask in it. May we go in the power of his Holy Spirit to live to his Glory”

24-7 Prayer is something which we as a parish have gained much from, and we hope over the next year to be looking for other opportu-nities to run similar events as we seek out God’s vision for our parish. Robert

The theme of this year’s Holiday Club is Mega Makers! We will explore stories from Matthew’s Gospel to help the children to understand how vast God’s love is for us

and how we can be lifelong followers of Jesus and grow in our faith. The holiday club runs from 29th July –2nd August from 10am – 12.30, Tuesday

to Friday and 10.30 – 1pm on Saturday, which is a family day. It takes place in Scoil Mhuire gan Smal, Blarney and is open to anyone in

Primary school, including those beginning in September. Cost this year is only €10 per child for the 5 days.

Booking for the Holiday Club is now open and places are filling up quickly but there are still places so check out www.cupcork.ie/holidayclub to download a booking form. To avoid disappointment booking is essential as soon as possible as places available are limited due to Health and Safety.

We are looking for people to sign up to help with the BBQ at the

Family day on the Saturday. We particularly need people to provide salads and desserts. Please contact: Lucia O’Donovan @ 0872942285 if you can help

with this in any way. Thank you. Just a reminder that we are looking for the following junk items:- (these can be placed in the boxes provided in each church in July) Egg boxes (plastic and /or card); Small cardboard boxes (such as cereal, biscuit and shoe boxes); Large and extra large cardboard boxes; Bubble wrap and other packing material (polystyrene or organic packing pellets); Pieces of junk metal (parts from old machines, jar lids etc); Shiny paper (old wrapping paper, sweet wrappings (clean!) etc); Ribbon (any scrap pieces like those from the in-side of clothes or from labels); Corner yoghurt pots. Thank you! April

Sarah Casey says ‘Thank

you’ to everyone who prayed for her

nephew Darragh who recovered so well

from his accident.

A couple wishing to sell their home over the sum-mer have asked if anyone in the parish has room for them to store some of their stuff (mainly toys and baby equipment) for no longer than 3 months? This would be greatly appreciated. Contact Claire: 086-8632877

Just to say... Call Sam McMahon 086 2383855 for odd jobs this summer—sheds cleared, lawns cut etc.

Ted says, ‘We need a new Christmas Crib, as the old one which was full of wood worm had to be burnt. We are looking for someone who is a good carpenter to make a new one in time for the end of November. It would not be a permanent crib, as it would need to be dismantled and re-erected to be put in the church. We got over 15 years from the last one... so hopefully another 15 yrs with the new one.

PARISH CENTRE CLEAN UP As Jeff J and John F will be busy enough this summer with St Peter’s roof, Ciaran M & Robert D are co-ordinating the necessary clean-up and decoration/maintenance jobs on the Parish Centre. They will both be there on Saturday 19 and Saturday

26 July from 10am to 4pm. On Sat 19 the main jobs will be cleaning, so any volunteers are asked to bring scrapers, ladders, spades, brooms for outside clean-up and buckets, cloths etc & cleaning agents, ladders for inside clean-up. On Sat 26 we’ll be decorating—some inside and some outside, weather permitting, so volun-teers are asked to bring paint brushes, rollers, paint trays & cloths. Dust sheets for the floors would also be useful. A professional carpet cleaner is booked for 22 August to clean the carpets in the Centre—and the fabric red chairs, so we’ll be clean and smart for the Autumn! (If you’d like to help, but can’t make either of those days, please confer with Ciaran or Robert or ask through the office—and a job list will be made available for you to choose from!) THANK YOU !

LATE SUMMER SPECIAL A Weekend of Fun, Food, Faith for the Carrigrohane Union Family

ON THE NORTH FIELD

Saturday 30th August— “THE REAL AUSSIE BARBIE”

Supporting the work of the Special Olympics FC, 4 to 7pm

Sunday 31st August— “NOW FOR TOMORROW”

Thanksgiving Offering for CUP— 4pm Thanksgiving Service

Down Under in Carrigrohane Yes it is all a bit crazy, but Carrigrohane Union is doing things differently this Summer – we are going Down Under!

It all started because we have a budget deficit to meet this year. But instead of pressing the panic button and getting everybody out fundraising all year round, we are having one short burst and are are coming in faith NOW, for TOMORROW, while at the same time doing some upside down Kingdom of God work in building community with the “THE REAL AUSSIE BARBIE”. and yes it all could be turned upside down by the Irish Weather. But then you have to be a little crazy organising anything outside in Ireland. Come rain or shine we are going to have a fun faith filled weekend to remember. Please go “Down Under” and read on.

“NOW FOR TOMORROW” Is the title of the Thanksgiving Gift Day to be held on Sunday 31stAugust,when we ask every church member to give to the ongoing work of Carrigrohane Union – giving NOW so that at the end of the year our finances are in budget, to resource TOMORROW ie; our mission and ministry for Vision 2015.

Gift Day Envelopes will be provided, and we ask that you pray to be guided as to how much to give – our target is €10,000. We then celebrate on Sunday 31st August with a special service in the Marquee at 4pm on the North Field ie; the Special Olympics Gunner’s FC Ground. (nb there will be no other services that day).

Sanctuary Choir & Orchestra

Presenting their 2014 Go Ye! CONCERT

PERFORMING CLASSICAL,

GOSPEL, HYMNS AND

SPIRITUALS Appearing at the

CHURCH OF IRELAND on the Square, Blarney on

Tuesday, July 15, 8:00 PM

“THE REAL AUSSIE BARBIE” To make a weekend of it we are going to celebrate on Saturday 30th with a Real Aussie Barbie. and serv-ing our community by welcoming our neighbours and friends and raising money for the Special Olympics Gunners FC. So that day, we simply ask our members to:

• come and have fun with all the family and friends • serve by responding to the volunteer board on this page • have a generosity of spirit as we give all the proceeds of the Barbie

to the Special Olympics Soccer Club. The club have invested heavily in developing the North Field and this is one way we can show our appreciation. Ian

Thank you to Marg, for all the music contributions

in recent years. We wish her a

refreshing ‘sabbatical’.

Sign up to help….At the BBQ on Saturday 30 August it would be great to have people to face-paint, bring your BBQ with some meat & things to cook and some to share, bring side dishes, play and help with the cricket/soccer, ‘man’ the bring & buy, run a cake stall...etc! There will be sign up sheets in the churches and a fuller list of opportunities to join in will be circulated on the Email Updates.

Seniors’ Lunch...on Wednesday 16 July at 12.30pm (with HC at 12 in the Meeting Room) – a summer special where every-one’s welcome to just come along (4877260 to book your place) or phone in to say what dish they’d like to contribute. There’ll be a donations plate available – in aid of the Mothers’ Union Wheels Appeal. MU Community Development Coordinators (CDCs) work in many countries across the world. They work within their own and neighbouring communities (many very isolated), to organise training and help start projects that provide relevant solutions to the needs they face. This Appeal funds CDCs’ salaries and travel costs.

Welcome to

Table Talk’s Tearfund Challenge: an immersive experience that will wake you up to the way life is for millions of children orphaned by AIDS. Remember the last time you had a power cut and couldn’t just turn on a tap or make a cup of tea! Imagine if that was a daily reality. This activity aims to raise awareness of these and other such issues in the developing world, especially those relating to child-headed families who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. Table Talk is a small/home/Bible study group for young adults. Following on from running events like ‘Live Below the Line’ and ‘The No Slumber Challenge’ for the young people, we’d like to run a social justice challenge for the rest of the church. We hope that it will help you (the adults) engage with the developing world issues (how come it’s just the youth who usually get to do these activities?). The dates for your diaries are 15 & 16 of August in the Parish Centre, starting at 8pm on Friday evening and finishing at 2pm on Saturday afternoon. More info from Matthew Watson 0873107603 [email protected] or Heather Lane 0852744404 [email protected].

HELP! How do I do this ‘preaching thing’?

How do I take a passage of scripture and produce a talk from it...?

Following up on the training day on preaching/teaching last summer is the second:

‘Living Word’ workshop, featuring Mike Neglia - the pastor of calvary Church Cork and great bible teacher (with Matt Gould assisting!).

When: Saturday 13th September (10-4pm), Where: The Parish Centre, Carrigrohane What: This will be a PRACTICAL workshop, looking at the key skills in taking a bible text and developing a talk that flows from the text. The afternoon session will focus on a worked example, that each small group will work through, and deliver to the rest of the group. Who for: This fun, interactive workshop is ideal for small group lead-ers and occasional speakers, lay readers, youth leaders, clergy...

Please ask Matt for more information.
