Description & ObjectivesWelcome to the 1st Joint Conference of the Pediatric Critical Care Colloquium (PCCC) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Critical Care (SOCC) in Chicago! We will share venues at both the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago site at Northwestern University and the AAP National Conference & Exhibition site at McCormick Place. The PCCC and the AAP National Conference are both annual medical scientific abstract and education conferences that uniquely address important topics in the care of critically ill children. The theme of the 2017 conference, “New Frontiers in Pediatric Critical Care”, highlights the new partnerships and advancements in the pediatric critical care realm. It is also a nod to the new frontier we have crossed in a partnership between the AAP and PCCC to intro-duce this conference as a joint endeavor. Our members live in both worlds and are all dedicated to making a difference in the lives of sick children and their families.Attendees will acquire knowledge of the latest clinical and research advance-ments as well as reflect on the field of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Practical information, as well as new developments will be covered. The conference is targeted to all allied health care professionals who care for critically ill children. Pediatric critical care physicians, pediatric emergency medicine physicians, pediatric surgical specialty physicians, pediatric medical subspecialty physi-cians, pediatric critical care nurses, advanced practice nurses, hospitalists and respiratory therapists will all find material of use at this conference. The program includes plenary sessions, debates, interactive case presentations, and oral and poster abstract presentations. We plan to promote fellows and trainees of all levels and invite them to continue their growth as practitioners with connections to both the PCCC and the AAP. As with past PCCC and SOCC programs, the format is particularly designed to encourage open discussion between meeting participants and question-and-answer periods with lecturers. At the conclusion of the program participants will be better able to:• Extend findings from laboratory and clinical research to bedside care• Demonstrate applications of precision medicine to the care of critically ill children

• Debate important ethical issues in the subspecialty• Explore the evolution of PCCM - from the perspectives of advances in clinical care, IT, and subspecialty practice• Identify key concepts with applications to direct patient care• Develop practical understanding of clinical advancements• Analyze advances in the general care of critically ill children

Chicago’s magic lies in its mix: sophisticated yet friendly; bustling city streets adjacent to long stretches of green parks and sparkling blue Lake Michigan; and a stunning, year-round array of things to see and do. The Chicago Skydeck provides breathtaking 360-degree views from North America’s tallest building, the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower). At 103 stories-high, the Skydeck offers an unparalleled view of Chicago and four surrounding states. Navy Pier on the lakefront contains more than 50 acres of parks, shops, and restaurants. The Pier’s attractions include the IMAX Theatre, the Ferris Wheel, the Chicago Children’s Museum, and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. The Museum Campus, near Soldier Field, is home to The Field Museum of Natural History, the Adler Plan-etarium, and the Shedd Aquarium. The Shedd houses more than 8,000 aquatic creatures, from beluga whales and frolicking sea otters to lively penguins and exotic fish. The Museum of Science and Industry offers over 800 interactive exhibits that are open for children of all ages to touch, create, and explore. Millennium Park, the new downtown cultural hot spot, features spectacular architecture and gardens and a digi-tally-animated water fountain that is a favorite of children and families.
