Machinery Maintenance Mechanic Courses Stanislaus County Area Joint Apprenticeship Program & Manufacturing Maintenance The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic Apprenticeship Program is designed for individuals hired as new apprentices by member employers of the Stanislaus County Area Manufacturing and Maintenance Joint Apprenticeship Committee. The program is composed of 576 hours of classroom and lab instruction and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and is approximately 4 years in length. The program is designed so that the employer hires the apprentice, and the apprentice increases his/her occupational skills and knowledge through On-The-Job Training (OJT) at the employer site while attending specific college courses approved as related supplemental instruction (RSI) at Modesto Junior College. Students interested in more information about the program should contact the MJC Technical Education Office for a listing of member employers. Mechanical Skills: (1) observing and applying basic mechanical principles; (2) selecting and applying proper lubrication techniques and practices; (3) installing and repairing basic drive components; (4) lubricating, inspecting and replacing bearings; (5) troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing and installing various types of pumps; (6) Troubleshooting, inspecting, repairing and installing equipment and plant systems, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems

Machine Operation: (1) fabricating, repairing and modifying parts with use of various shop machine tools (lathe, mills, saws, drill presses, grinders, etc.)

Welding and Cutting Operations: (1) selecting and utilizing correct welding equipment, methods, and materials; (2) preparing materials for welding operations; (3) performing oxy/acetylene and electric arc welding of various materials; (4) brazing metal materials using oxy/acetylene gas; (5) cutting metal material with oxy/acetylene torch

Packaging Machinery Maintenance: (1) cleaning, operating, changing over, repairing, inspecting, troubleshooting and installing packaging machinery

Rigging and Installation: Rigging, relocating, and installing equipment within plant facility

Maintaining Processing Equipment: Cleaning, operating, repairing, troubleshooting, and installing processing equipment

Perform Basic Electrical Procedures: (1) troubleshoot equipment as to power availability; (2) determine whether it’s an electrical problem or mechanical; (3) safety procedure when dealing with electrical equipment
