John 4: 13 & 14 (Woman at the well)

‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed

the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.’

John 6:26 & 27 (after feeding of 5000)

‘I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous sings but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils but for food

that endures to eternal life, which I will give you.’

… put down your nets!

… and they left their nets and followed Him.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled

(Matthew 5:6).

Blaise Pascal Christian philosopher 1600’s said ‘That we all have a “God-shaped void” in our lives. All men are hungry and thirsty; the problem is that we try to fill that emptiness, that hunger, with things other than the righteousness of God. We try to fill that “God-shaped void” in our lives with all kinds of things, but we are left empty, unsatisfied.

Matthew Ch5:20 ‘For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.’

Trap of Legalism

1. Make rules outside the Bible or over emphasising Biblical rules.

2. Push yourself to try and keep your rules.

3. Castigate yourself when you don’t keep your rules.

4. Become proud when you do keep your rules.

5. Appoint yourself as judge over other people.

6. Get angry with people who break your rules or have

different rules.

7. ‘Beat’ the losers.

I tried keeping rules and working my head off to please God, and it didn’t work. So I quit being a ‘law man’ so that I could be

God’s man.
