  • 1)Inside Jaws Used to measure internal diameter of an object .

    2)Outside JawsUsed to measure external diameter or width of an object.

    3)Clamp Screw The screw clamp may then be tightened to ensure that the reading does not change while the scale is being read. 4)Vernier ScaleGives measurements up to two decimal places (in mm).

    PARTS OF A VERNIER CALIPER

  • 5)Main ScaleGives measurements of up to one decimal place(in inch).

    6)Main Scale Gives measurements in fraction(in inch).

    7)Depth barUsed to measure depths of an object or a hole.

  • Measuring Internal DiameterUse the inside jaws of the caliper as shown

  • Measuring External DiameterUse the outside jaws of the caliper as shown

  • Use the outside jaws of the caliper as shownUse the depth bar of the caliper as shown

  • STEP1 (A:Main scale reading)Read the 0 position of the vernier scale on the main scale to get a rough reading.(1Scale=1mm) Rough reading =37.00mm overlapSTEP3C:Reading(=A+B)The reading is 37.46 mmSTEP2 (B:Vernier scale reading)This 23 is multiplied by 0.02 giving 0.46 mm as the answer .(1Scale=0.02mm)overlapREADING THE VERNIER SCALE
