Czy obiekty makroskopowe zachowują się kwantowo?

IV curve

I-V characteristics of JJ biased through RB bias resistor. JJ supports supercurrent only to certain level. On crossing the threshold value I0 finite voltage develops across JJ.

JJ zastosowania

Motywacja dla fizyka/filozofa:

- testowanie idei mechaniki kwantowej na obiektach makroskopowych (na zmiennych opisujących układy składające się z makroskopowej liczby cząstek);

4. Czy istnieje splątanie kwantowe? („spooky action at distance”)

JJ = SZTUCZNY ATOM z drucikami („macroscopic nuclei with wires”)!!!

JJ zastosowania

Motywacja dla inżyniera:

1. SQUID = 2xJJ, najczulszy detektor pola magnetycznego

2. JJ to detektor progowy (threshold detector)

3. JJ – podstawowy element nadprzewodzących obwodów elektrycznych (JJ = nieliniowa indukcyjność) => np. 1D rezonatory o regulowanej częstotliwości rezonansowej

4. Superconducting qubits – podstawowy składnik komputera kwantowego

Page 8: JJ = sztuczny atom ( Wykład 2 )

JJ – detektor progowy(w poszukiwaniu EMF)

Fig.4. The current going through JJ switch results from biasing it from voltage source VB through bias resistor RB , and the current generated due to EMF (IEMF = EMF/R). If this current is above the threshold value the JJ switches and a voltage develops. JJ can be easily read-out by a voltmeter.

’s denote rates for both processes.

Superconducting Wave can relax to a state of lower energy changing its quantum state in two ways:

1. Via thermally activated phase slips 2. Via Quantum Phase Slips (tunneling, even at T -> 0)

Since many Cooper pairs are involved in such change we call it

Macroscopic Quantum Tunneling.

Evolution under beam bombardment of the same single wire

Goal: to study progressive development of the effect as the function of wire diameter

Human hair is approx. 80 m thick.

Wire is approx. 10nm thick

=> it is 8000 times thinner than your hair
