This Unit manufactures and markets large diameter Submerged Arc Welded pipes using U-O-E, J-C-O and Helical processes. These pipes are mainly used for energy transportation in oil & gas sector, slurry/concentrate and water transportation. The size range of the Longitudinal (LSAW) pipes varies between 16 inches - 60 inches for outer diameter and wall thickness of up to 50.8 mm. For Helical/Spiral (HSAW) pipes it varies between 18 inches - 100 inches for outer diameter and wall thickness of up to 25.4 mm. Eight state-of-the-art, manufacturing facilities have been set up in India to cater to the growing needs of hydro carbon transportation. The first plant was set up at Kosi Kalan in the state of Uttar Pradesh with one unit to manufacture LSAW pipes and one unit to manufacture HSAW pipes. It also has an anti-corrosion coating unit. To meet the potential export market competitively, the second plant, which is a 100% export oriented unit with two LSAW pipe manufacturing facilities, was set up at Nanakapaya, Mundra in Gujarat. This plant is situated just 10Kms from Port Mundra and is also strategically equipped with an anti-corrosion coating unit. The third plant is located at Samaghogha, also in the state of Gujarat, with two units to manufacture HSAW Pipes and one unit to manufacture LSAW Pipes using J-C-O process as well as a unit to manufacture connector casings, hot pulled induction bends and an anti-corrosion coating unit. The fourth plant, located at Bellary in the state of Karnataka, manufactures HSAW Pipes and also has an anti-corrosion coating unit.
The combined capacity of these plants is 1,840,000 MT per annum for Line Pipes.
Jindal SAW Ltd., is the most experienced longitudinally welded line pipe manufacturer in Asia after Japan. Handling and Storage of PipesSpecial consideration and attention is given to the handling and storage of pipes. Bare/coated pipes are either directly loaded on the trailers which have suitable dunnage and lashing facilities or stacked in the coating yard premises. Height of stacks and relevant number of pipe tiers are decided after taking into consideration the recommended practices of API 5LW (RP 5LW) concerning static allowable load. Handling operation is normally carried out by E.O.T crane, forklift or mobile crane. Coated pipes are handled with rubber/Teflon padded hooks to prevent damage to pipe and coating. Also, all handling equipment and practices are designed to avoid excessive stress on the pipe. Similar safety precautions are used for marine transport to avoid damage to the pipe coating and the pipes themselves.
ApplicationPipes thus manufactured are suitable for transportation of hydrocarbon products, crude lines, slurry/concentrate & water transportation, high temperature and pressure application in refineries and petrochemical units, conductor casing for oil and gas exploration, pressure vessels, piling, construction and structures etc.
PAGE 14 PAGE 15
Other TestsAll pipes at various stages are subjected to a series of stringent non-destructive tests. Ultrasonic testing machine and Radiographic examination ensures the quality of weld. Intermediate Ultrasonic testing/real time Radioscopy, Magnetic Particle inspection and visual inspection further testify the regularity of quality pattern.
Destructive testing such as Charpy V Notch testing and Drop Weight Tear Testing (DWTT) facilities are available in-house and are carried out as per requirement.
Special testing facilities for pipes to be used for Sour Service application are also conducted in-house in our modern NACE lab. Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC), Sulphide Stress Corrosion Cracking (SSCC) and Four Point Bend test are the primary tests undertaken for checking the resistance of pipes to corrosive environment.

Monel Sheathing
Application of Monel Sheathing is done for protection of offshore pipeline, which is above the sea water.
Monel strip of 5 mm thickness is welded and 100% dye penetration tested. A section is cut from longitudinal and circumferential welds for metallographic examination. Such an examination should show the welds to be free of slag inclusions and cracks. One Monel to carbon steel weld is X-rayed.
All welding is done as per qualified procedure in the down-hill position, using ERNICu-7 filler wire & ERNI-1 filler wire.
In line with our company's inherent vision for regular upgradation and forward integration, a modern Hot Pulled Induction Bends facility of size range from 4" OD to 48" OD was set up within the Kosi Kalan complex in the year 1998. In order to cater to the export market another facility for induction bends at Samaghogha was installed having size range from 8" OD to 56" OD. Over 6000 bends have already been manufactured at this facility and are well accepted in the domestic & export markets.
