Employees in the Jewellery trade design and make jewellery and small objects using a wide range of materials including metals, stones, wood, plastics and fibres. They engrave designs on ring settings, brooches and other articles, and shape metal and other materials by cutting, filing, hammering, turning, spinning and bending. They cast, fold and link using specialised hand and power tools, assemble articles by soldering, screwing, or riveting together components, and finish articles using files, buffing machines or other appropriate tools. They may also perform the following tasks:

• perform lost wax casting processes • produce jewellery wax models • produce jewellery metal masters • perform hand engraving • perform jewellery enamelling • repair jewellery items.

If you are seeking recognition in the Jewellery trade, you must provide evidence demonstrating the nature and duration of your employment, such as:

• log books or job cards illustrating the nature of trade work you have performed • work-related references from employers and qualified supervisors outlining the duration of

employment and detailing the nature of work you have performed, procedures applied and tools and equipment used which are consistent with the Jewellery trade. References must be signed, dated and on your employer’s letterhead.

• formal training records, evidence of relevant training completed to date • any other evidence that demonstrates that you are competent or trained to work as a Jeweller.
