Jesuit Athletics

Welcome to the Jesuit High School community. Jesuit offers many sports programs through our

athletic office for students of all athletic abilities. It is our mission to help you develop your

character and maximize your athletic potential through the discipline of athletic competition.

Below is some information to help you as you begin your journey here at Jesuit. Again, we

welcome you.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Are there Jesuit athletic activities this summer?

A: To increase your chances of making a team or becoming a starter, freshmen are encouraged to workout during the

summer. Play on a summer league team, get on a workout routine, and/or just stay active. The weight room will

be open from 8- 10 am Mon- Fri and 5:30-7 pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Plyometrics are also run

in the summer and are open to all students on M/W/F from 7-8am. Plyos and Weight Room hours begin on June

11th. These hours are subject to change, so confirm hours on the athletic page of Jesuit’s website this summer.

Information on summer training for specific sports is listed on the back of this page.

Q: Are there Jesuit Summer Athletic Camps?

A: Yes, many Jesuit sports have summer camps. Participation in camps is strongly recommended but does not affect

whether a student makes a team during the regular season. Camp information and online registration can be

found at jesuitportland.org. If you have questions regarding camps, call 503-291-5486.

Q: I don’t want to miss anything; how do I get information on fall tryouts, camps, etc.?

A: Camp registration is available online at jesuitportland.org. Specific information regarding tryouts will be sent by

email in the summer and will be posted on the team pages for each sport by July 1st. All of this information will

also be posted on the main athletic page of jesuitportland.org.

Q: When are Fall Tryouts for Freshmen?

A: Fall Tryouts begin Monday, August 13, 2018. Freshmen competing in football, soccer and volleyball are required

to start tryouts on Monday, August 13th . Freshmen participating in cross country are encouraged to start on

August 13th ; however, mandatory practice for freshmen participating in cross country starts on the first day of

school.

2018 SUMMER TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

The following list is subject to change. Please check the Athletics page on jesuitportland.org for changes and additions!

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

SUMMER FRESHMAN TEAM - The Women’s Basketball Program has an incoming freshman team that will compete through June, including

weekend tournaments. To participate, contact Martha Cope in the Athletic Office at [email protected] by mid-May.

Women’s Basketball Camp—June 18-22 3:30-6:00pm (9th grade); June 11-15 12:00-2:30pm (10th-12th grades) $125* (incoming Jesuit freshmen can

attend both camps).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Men’s Basketball Camp – June 25-29 12:30-3:00pm $125. This is a great opportunity to get to know the Jesuit coaching staff, as well as the drills

and expectations of the Jesuit basketball program. You will have a great time working hard, while playing basketball, and getting to know some of

your new classmates at the same time. There is no summer league team for incoming freshmen. All freshmen are encouraged to participate in

Plyometric training and weight room opportunities that are available all summer.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY SUMMER TRAINING RUNS Incoming freshmen are welcome and encouraged to join summer

training runs on Tuesdays (9 am at Beaverton Nature Park) and Thursdays (8 am strength training, 9 am run @ Jesuit) and Saturday mornings at 9:00

am. Summer training runs will begin the week of June 25th. Check with Coach Tom Rothenberger for Saturday run locations

([email protected] ) (The runs are not required but freshmen are welcome and encouraged to attend). More information will be sent

this summer to all freshmen who express interest.

Cross Country Camp is Jun 25-29 10am-12pm- $125. Incoming Freshmen are encouraged to attend. Contact Head Coach Tom Rothenberger at

[email protected] with any questions. Cross Country Camp has been canceled for this year.

WOMEN’S SOCCER Soccer Information Meeting for incoming Freshman Parents & Students: Wednesday, May 16th 7:00-8:00pm in the Smith Gym.

Welcome Practice! Wednesday May 30th 6:00-8:00pm Open to all incoming and returning players.

Women’s Soccer Camp: August 6-10, 11:00am-1:30pm $125

All prospective players traditionally attend (although not mandatory). Camp is designed to assist players in preparation for tryouts and to introduce

the technical and tactical priorities that will be stressed during the High School season

MEN’S SOCCER

Soccer Information Meeting for Freshman Parents: Monday, May 14th at 6:00pm in the Gedrose Student Center.

Men’s Soccer Camp: August 6-10, 8:00-10:30am; $125

MEN’S LACROSSE

. We encourage anyone interested in trying out to take advantage of the plyometric and weight room opportunities that are available! There IS a

summer camp run by our coaching staff for grades 1-9 – watch the website for dates and times.

There are no lacrosse-specific summer events for incoming freshmen, but we encourage anyone interested in trying out to take advantage of the

FOOTBALL

WEIGHT ROOM ORIENTATION –Thursday, May 31st at 5:00pm. We will have a meeting with all the incoming Freshman Football Players &

parents that are able to be there. We will have a number of coaches there to meet with you and start helping you with a lifting program. It should last

about an hour.

FOOTBALL CAMP – July 30-August 3 9:00am-12:00pm; $125 –You are encouraged to attend if you are in town. You will get to meet your

classmates and meet your coaches – And get ready for the year.

CONDITIONING WEEK – AUGUST 6-9 – tentative time is 3 TO 6PM. You are encouraged to come, but it is not mandatory for freshman. It is a

good time to get in shape for the weeks to follow.

VOLLEYBALL

The Jesuit Volleyball Camp is July 30-August 3 from 12:30-3:00p.m.; $125. Camp is a great way to meet other freshmen and get to know the

coaches and prepare for the upcoming season. You are encouraged to attend, but it is not mandatory. Incoming freshmen are also welcome and

encouraged to attend a training session for summer workouts on Wednesday, May 16th from 5:00-7:00pm on the track. Please come dressed down

and ready to participate in conditioning and weight training exercises There are also training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings all summer

from 6:00-7:30.pm. starting on June 19th (no training on July 3rd or 5th)—these sessions will be conditioning and open gym volleyball with

instructional components included.

BASEBALL

There are no summer teams for incoming freshmen. We encourage anyone interested in trying out to take advantage of the plyometric and weight

room opportunities that are available! There IS a summer camp run by our coaching staff for grades 5-8.

SOFTBALL

There is no summer softball camp or summer league. We encourage you to take advantage of the plyometric and weight room opportunities that are

open to you all summer and participate fully in your summer leagues. There will be a mini camp run by our coaching staff in the winter.

Plyometrics—Open to all students: M/W/F 7:00-8:00am starting June 11th

Weight Room—Open to All Students—M/T/W/TH/F 8-10am; M/W 5:30-7pm Beginning June 11th

NO ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES OF ANY KIND ON CAMPUS July 22-28 - All facilities will be closed.
