A collaborative project of the Jerusalem Film Center and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, initiated by Ada Ushpiz and Nurit Kedar, the Festival promotes documentary filmmaking with an ethnographic orientation and charts the complexities and unique expressions of individuals and communities in society, culture, and politics. The Festival explores a variety of subjects: children around the world, whose playgrounds and imaginative and conscious spaces are ensnared in the icy plains of northern Russia, a childrens playground in the Scottish woods, at the boxing center on the Burma-Thailand border, and elsewhere. We will wander through the vulnerable worlds of elderly women in North America and southern China. We will examine the way of life of a group of vagabonds with different gender rules in Niger, and families in Peru, Transylvania Russia and India. When does humanity forcibly emerge?
