I-66 Outside the Beltway
New point-to-point, peak period transit service that utilizes new Express Lanes and provides more frequent and reliable trips to major regional destinations
New/expanded Park-and-Ride facilities with direct access to new Express Lanes
Travel Demand Management (TDM) strategies making it easier and more affordable to use alternative travel options

Northern Virginia Transit Projects
I-66 Inside the Beltway
Project will provide revenue stream to support multi-modal investments on I-66 and adjacent complementary corridors
Multi-modal investments will allow the movement of more people through the corridor and enhance connectivity
Provide more alternatives to single occupant vehicles Enhance transit operations Create opportunities for improved travel on parallel routes Provide seamless connectivity to the region’s 40+ mile network of
Express Lanes
DRPT produced the original I-66 Transit/TDM Study in 2009 and partnered with VDOT to produce the I-66 Inside the Beltway Multi-modal Study in 2012 & Supplemental Report in 2013
DRPT is now supporting VDOT and the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) on the implementation of the study recommendations

VRE Gainesville to Haymarket
The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) is currently studying an 11-mile extension of its Manassas line through Gainesville to the general vicinity of VA Route 15 near Haymarket in Prince William County
Extensive growth in housing in western Prince William County combined with emerging jobs centers make a VRE Gainesville-Haymarket extension a priority for expanding regional mobility
Revenue service could start within 10 years

VRE Spotsylvania Station VRE will open its newest commuter rail station south of Fredericksburg in
Spotsylvania, County later this year with 2.5 miles of new third track to be completed in early 2016
First major VRE service expansion in 23 years
The station will be the southernmost station on VRE’s Fredericksburg Line
700 foot platform with canopy; 1500 new parking spaces; waiting area
A new 62 acre mixed-use development is already planned for construction adjacent to the station

WMATA –
8-Car Trains
A WMATA strategic capital initiative is to operate all 8-car trains (longest possible) during rush hour by acquiring additional railcars, power capacity and railcar storage
In 2015 WMATA ordered 220 new Kawasaki 7000-series railcars (pictured above) to replace 192 of its most unreliable railcars and to expand fleet capacity by 28 railcars
8-car trains during rush hour would carry 35,000 more passengers per hour during rush hour – the equivalent of 18 new lanes of highways into Washington, DC

The WMATA Silver Line is a 23-mile extension of the Metrorail system in Virginia
Phase 1 opened in 2014 with five stations; Phase 2 is an 11.4 mile extension from Wiehle-Reston to Ashburn in Loudoun County featuring six new stations, including Dulles International Airport; Phase 2 is under construction and projected to open in 2019
Between 2015-2040, a total of 70,000 office using jobs are projected to be added to the four submarkets impacted by the Silver Line (61% within ½ mile of a station)
8.5 million square feet of new office space around Silver Line stations is expected by 2040

WMATA –Silver Line
Infill Metrorail Station in Alexandria serving the Blue and Yellow Lines; 3.1 miles between Braddock Road and Reagan National Airport Stations; first new infill Metrorail station since 2004
80% of all office construction in the region takes place within ¼ mile of existing Metrorail stations
Station could ultimately generate up to 26,000 new jobs (25% increase to City’s current job base)
Station is projected to generate as much as $888 million in new City tax revenues over 30 years
