JejuOlle Trail, the Most Beautiful and Peaceful Path in the World
Jeju Olle Trail is the way for walking travelers.
Traveling by cars is dotted journeys where Jeju Olle Trail is a journey of a long line.
You can reveal the interior of Jeju walking on Jeju Olle Trail which you can't do
from short sojourns in dots. Until you walk around the beautiful island of Jeju and
are fascinated by hidden and unexplored regions in the hilly and mountainous
areas and small islands, the routes in Jeju Olle Trail continue to lead you.
Jeju Olle Trail, an Open Path to the World
"Olle" [Ole] is the Jeju word for a narrow pathway that is connected from the
street to the front gate of a house. Hence, "Olle" is a path that comes out from a
secret room to an open space and a gateway to the world. Jeju Olle Trail shows
Jeju's unique culture and scenery while connecting Jeju to the world. In terms of
Korean pronunciation, Jeju Olle implies the meaning of invitation, "would you like
to come to Jeju?" as well.
Jeju Island in Korea
Jeju Island has become the first Korean natural heritage site to be added to
UNESCO's World Heritage List. Scenic beaches, waterfalls, cliffs and caves lie in
harmony, and the mild weather makes Jeju Island an ideal place for walking; a
perfect holiday destination.

Signposts Guiding the Jeju Olle Trail
In principle, signposts ('Ganse; arrows and ribbons) are posted only at those necessary
spots. You may feel that you are lost for you can't find a signpost. If so, please retrace
back to the last spot on the trail and look around for any missing signposts. Enjoying the
surrounding scenery and walking on the trail slowly is the best way to avoid missing any
signposts.
Ganse is a symbol of the Jeju Olle Trail shaped after ponies in Jeju
as a motif, the name comes from the old Jeju dialect, 'gansedari'
meaning a slow lazybones. In order to enjoy the Jeju Olle Trail, you
had best walk along the trail as slowly as possible like Jeju pony
that strolls in the green grassland on Jeju.
Ganse is made of corn, an environment-friendly special material.
Ganse's heading direction guides the right direction of the route.
The informations like as position numbers where you are and the
distance left of the route are on the Ganse's body frame.
Ribbon Blue and orange ribbons are usually intertwined
and hung on twigs. You may find them on mountain paths
where it is hard to mark arrows.
Arrows Blue arrows on the ground, stone wall and utility
poles are the most elementary directional sign to display
the directions of the Jeju Olle Trail.
Orange arrows guide people onto the reverse path of the
trail. If you decide to take the trail from the end of the route
to the starting point, follow the orange arrows.
Wooden Arrow Blue and Orange Arrows on the Wooden
Pole at Crossroads Marked with a Wooden Arrow
The Cornerstone at the Starting Point of each route
You may see an outline map, routes and main points of the
trail on the cornerstone at the starting point.

The campaign is to call for a small action to erase our own carbon footprint. We
unavoidably cause carbon gas emissions during our lifetime, adding more to rising
greenhouse gas.
The campaign encourages individuals and businesses to share and donate one
percent of what they pay for their energy consumption, or sports and leisure
activities.
The National Nature Trust will use the donations to plant trees to make forests that
absorb carbon dioxide gases erasing our carbon footprints.
The three months of energy consumed by a 109 nrT apartment unit generates one
kilogram of carbon dioxide, which will require planting one hundred trees to erase its
carbon footprint.
It costs 5,000 Korean Won to erase one visitor's carbon footprint left on Jeju Island
during a 3 day and 2 night tour.
The donations collected by The Jeju Olle Foundation on behalf of the National Nature
Trust will be used to procure Gotjawal areas, the lungs of Jeju, to keep them from
reckless development.

Hints while Using Jeju OlleTrail We hope you'll find, and leave for future travelers, each route litter-free, clean
and attractive. Please help us maintain a high standard of environmental
cleanliness. Most routes involve the use of private property - we believe in
acting as we would have others act were it our own property-
Accidents from adventurous activities around deep gorges, precipitous cliffs
and busy highways spoil for all an otherwise perfect day. The snakes, insects
(except mosquitoes!), horses, cattle, sheep, goats, wild animals and birds you
may meet will most likely ignore you if you to them do likewise.
A trip to experience Jeju Olle trails is a free travel. No tour guide is provided for any
course. Please be cautious at all times about your safety, whether you are walking
on a trail or any other place during your journey. We recommend you have traveler's
insurance for any accidents. If you need help from the Jeju police, call the telephone
number 112.
