What is MA Responds and What Can it DO for YOU?

New volunteer registration system and website for registering public health volunteers in MA

•Both medical and non-medical volunteers

•Integrates registration for local, regional, and statewide volunteer programs

• Medical Reserve Corps (MRCs)

• MA System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (MSAR)/Unaffiliated State Volunteers

• Behavioral Health Disaster Responders

Why MA Responds?

• Recent Events—Hurricane Sandy, Ice Storm, H1N1, Flooding, Tornadoes

• Strengthen communication

• Mobilize volunteers from outside communities

• Centralize deploying & tracking of volunteers

• Develop profile of the types of volunteers statewide 

• Goal: Rapid identification and utilization of volunteers in emergencies

Current Status MA Responds• 39 MRC units enrolled in MA Responds

• Also State MSAR volunteers, Behavioral Health Disaster Responders

• Over 10,300 volunteers in MA Responds System

• 101 trained administrators in the system

• Over 60 medical professions represented

Other CORES ClientsAs of December 2012:

• 983 MRC units nationally• Over 207,000 MRC volunteers across the country• 36 of 50 states have chosen the CORES software by Intermedix to

manage their volunteers 2012 was the MRCs 10th Anniversary

Required Browsers:

NOTE: JavaScript must be enabled for administrators.

Pop-Up Blockers must be turned off.

• Confidentiality is the responsibility of EVERY Administrator!

MA Responds Definitions

• AdministratorAny person who performs management functions in system. Access rights vary by level

• Responder/Volunteer

A person that will help during an emergency or public health event

• Unit

A MRC or other volunteer team in the system. Each unit must have at least 1 administrator

• GroupsA smaller sub-set of volunteers within a unit that can be grouped by geography, skills, etc. Can be used to communicate with and manage separately

• MissionA deployment situation. Does not have to be an emergency (flu clinic, shelters, etc.)

MA Responds Roles

• Responder/Volunteer Can create and update personal information. Can view missions and trainings when assigned/invited, can view messages, and can only create messages to administrators

• Local Administrator

Can create missions, messages, trainings, and accept or reject volunteers into their unit

• Regional AdministratorSame abilities as local administrator, but has access to multiple units

• System/Statewide CoordinatorComplete system access. Can manage state volunteers and local units only with permission

• Call Center OperatorCan view all missions and send messages
