Most economic reports are increasinglyfavorable for the homebuilding industry for

    2011.

Economic growth and improvement in theunemployment rates are expected to be slow...

but at least they are heading in the right direction. So, it looks like

weve survived the worst of it!

The CHBA is probably still a year away from continuing our Annual

Clermont Homeshow but we still have a number of activities/events

in the next several months that will keep our members interested

    and in the loop.

Please plan on joining us at the next General Membership meeting

in March to network and re-aquaint yourself with all of the Buildersand Associates in the CHBA.

Thanks and have a prosperous 2011

    Tax News You Can Use

Small Business Jobs Act Offers Tax Cuts and a Surprise Health Insurance Deduction

On September 27, 2010 President Obama signed the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010. While the law focused onexpanding credit for small businesses, it includes several tax provisions to stimulate the economy by encouraging

businesses like yours to buy new equipment and to help save tax dollars when you pay for your employees or your

    own health insurance.

The new law extends the 50% bonus depreciation allowance, retroactive to January 1, 2010, through the

end of the year. This means you can deduct 50% of the cost of qualifying equipment up front, plus the

regular depreciation you would otherwise claim on the remaining 50% of the equipments basis.

The law also extends the $8,000 bonus depreciation allowance for new passenger vehicles. Under the old

law, your rst-year deduction was limited to $3,060. The new law raises that limit to as high as $11,060.

The law hikes the rst-year expensing allowance for eligible property you place in service in 2010. Unde

the old law, you could deduct up to $250,000 in new equipment, with the deduction phasing out as your

income tops $800,000. Under the new law, you can deduct up to $500,000, and the phase-out threshold goe

all the way up to $2 million.

The law increased the current deduction for new business start-up costs from $5,000 to $10,000 for 2010.

If you as an employer pay at least half of the premiums for single health insurance coverage for your

employees, you may be able to claim a credit during 2010 2013 equal to a maximum of $35% of the

    premiums paid.

The act also included a tax break for sole proprietors who pay for their own health insurance.

Under previous law, you could deduct self-employed health insurance premiums as an adjustment to gross

income on Page 1 of your Form 1040. That deduction was limited to your net income from self-employment --

generally, the net income you report on Schedule C. Any excess premium was deductible as a medical expense on

Schedule A -- but that deduction was limited to the amount of total medical/dental expenses exceeding 7.5% of you

gross income. And in either case, eligible premiums cut your income tax but not your self-employment tax.

The new law, however, lets you deduct premiums you pay for yourself, your spouse, and dependent children up

to age 26, directly on Schedule C. This means youll avoid self-employment tax as well as income tax on thosepremiums.

The new break is limited to 2010 only. If youd like even more savings, you can consider a medical expense

reimbursement plan or Health Savings Accounts in conjunction with your health insurance benets.

These are just the hi-lites of this tax legislation. If you would like to discuss any of these topics and how they can

be used to rescue tax dollars that you dont have to pay, please contact Dave at AccounTax at 528-5566 or dat.
