One concert report is required each quarter. Concert reports are due one week before the end of the quarter. A
concert report consists of one of the following:
A) Additional performances by students beyond their required high school concerts, such as a piano recital, church
choir performance, show choir & vocal jazz performances. Write a paragraph explaining the music you
performed, preparation of the music, and your honest opinion of the performance. Support your opinion
musically. Please use complete sentences.
B) One well-written page about a performance outside of your required high school concerts which you attended.
Include information about the music, your reaction to the music, and support your opinion using musical
terminology to express your ideas. Please use complete sentences and proper writing techniques.
C) One well-written page on an article about music (composers, styles, careers, history, or performers). Please list
the source. The paper must be in your own words but may contain quotations that reference the article you
have read. No plagiarism will be accepted. Please use complete sentences and proper writing technique.
One creative project is due each semester which could include writing a song, lyrics, creating videos, music education
posters, educational games. They will be presented for the class as the final for choir.
Choir is a “performing art”. It is imperative that the students participate in concerts to understand the “performance”
aspect of music. It is also one of the most rewarding class activities which will be impossible to duplicate without the
audience present. A list of JHS Choir performances is included. Please make arrangements with parents and employers
to have those dates available. Students will dress nicely for the concert. We will wear choir robes on some of the
concerts. No jeans or tennis shoes are allowed for performance. Please have appropriate footwear.
Expectations:
Excellent classroom behavior is expected at all times and will affect a student’s grade.
Be respectful of other members of the choir, the instructor, and yourself.
Be a responsible choir member.
Be an active participant in all classroom activities.
Bring a positive attitude to class.
Be a strong effective leader.
Be polite.
Be a team player. In choir, we work as a team.
Students must adhere to the NDHSAA rules including:
No tobacco
No alcohol
No drug use
Students must be passing all classes
These rules will be strictly followed. A student who violates these rules may not participate in extra-curricular activities
such as show choir performances, vocal jazz performances, All State auditions, WDA performances, or any public
performances.
I am looking forward to a wonderful musical year. There is great potential within the choir. I hope to have the
opportunity to get to know every student in choir. Please support them by encouraging them to explore their musical
talents. This involves a commitment from both student and parents. Attending their concerts is a great way to show
your son or daughter your love and support. Parents are a major contributor to the success of each and every student.
(detach and return)
I have read and understand the rules of the Jamestown High School Choir.

Assignment #1- Please return to Mrs. McIntyre by Aug. 29th for 15 points.
JHS Students in choir are encouraged to take voice lessons to realize their musical
potential. Each voice is different. Voice lessons allow individualized instruction
and normally help a student become more confident in their own abilities. Lessons
will be offered before and after school during the regular teaching hours free of
charge. If students intend to audition for honor choirs or All State, it is necessary to
take lessons to help them prepare. Students taking voice lessons will be expected to
practice diligently for each lesson.
Please return this sheet to sign up for lessons. A suitable time with be agreed
upon between student and teacher on a first come-first serve basis.
Voice lessons are offered at no cost to the student from 7:00-4:30 daily.
