Task Force Charter

• Charter– The Packet Data team has been formed as part of the CDMA

Development Group’s International Roaming Team (CDG IRT) to make technical recommendations to the CDMA community on packet data roaming issues. This team will endeavor, where ever possible, to standardise the recommended implementation of CDMA Data networks to assist with CDMA Packet Data roaming.

• Purpose/Goals:– Report to CDG International Roaming Team plenary quarterly

– Make technical recommendations for CDMA community relation to packet data services

– Develop documents to support recommendations for implementation of CDMA packet data services to support packet data roaming

Review of Activity

• Conference Call 10/25/05

– Established Charter and Priorities– Priorities = Network compatibility (long and near term), finishing

current document initiatives

• Conference Call 11/11/05– Reviewed compatibility issues and matrix

• Face-to-face meeting 11/29/05– Discussed compatibility issues– Agreed on recommendation for future convergence– Review Correlation-ID issue

Working face-to-face 11/29/05

• Almost 30 attendees

• Good operator attendance

• Collaborative approach with good discussion

• Appears to be an affective working model

• Plan to have more in the future

Output: Recommendation for Convergence• “The long-term target architecture for CDMA packet data

roaming should be Mobile IP”

• Near-term solutions still required

• No target timeline yet established

• Recognized that it will require lots of work on the part of some operators

• Plenary need to evaluate recommendation

Output of meeting

• We’re making good progress, BUT– We’re still solving “tip of the iceberg issues”

• For Mobile IP convergence we haven’t yet addressed:– Handset requirements– Network requirements

• Need to solve short-term issues associated with matrix– Describe current challenges with unsolved issues– Document #79 is probably right place for this work

Output of meeting, cont.

• Need to work on simplifying operational issues

• Agree on timeline for convergence (3 – 5 years?)

• When do we stop working on Simple IP solutions?
