Welcome to Introductions - a series that aims to introduce artistsshowing with Creations Fine Arts to the wider public.

Creation is based in Beverley, East Yorkshire. It has regular(roughly six weekly) exhibitions of artwork but also houses

ceramics, jewellery, photographs and prints .

We seek to support local artists but have work of note bynational and international creators from across Europe. In addition

have close links with Cuba and their art.

This volume introduces Cumbrian based artist Carol McDermottwhose reputation is already widespread and whose work appears in

a number of private collections across Europe and the United States. Her work is bold, highly textured, evocative and emotionally

charged.

When galleries find themselves in a position to represent anestablished and technically mature painter it is a bonus and we are

delighted to be able to work with Carol and act on her behalfthrough Creation

Carol McDermott …

…was born in Newcastle and studied fine art in London for threeyears, from 1988 to 1991. She was sponsored by Simon Birch ofChristie’s Fine Art. She won the New Grafton travel award. Sincethen she has shown her work in both individual and group showsin both private and public galleries. She still shows her work inLondon galleries and has works in private collections worldwide.Carol now lives in Cumbria near Hadrian’s Wall and is inspired bythe land around her.

Carol says

“I work instinctually, using both limited and complex palettes, where I try to engage the viewer through colour or light. Throughthis, the message is a subtle one of emotions which often vergeson the metaphysical. I don’t feel closed into any particular way ofworking, I paint from my heart. My language is my art, my wordsare the marks, colours and shapes.”

Carol’s work is often large scale, sometimes totally abstractedand tonally experimental. Her themes are frequently tied tomyth and philosophical considerations. The boldness of herwork can be startling, challenging and sophisticated at the sametime. Sometimes she may accentuate the thick texture of heroils through placing natural additives with the paint - seeds, treebark, grasses.
