Nonfiction
• Prose writing that deals with real, not imagined people and experiences.
• Types of nonfiction– Essays – Histories
• Speeches, sermons, contracts, deeds, constitutions, laws, biographies, autobiographies, memoirs, letters, diaries, journals.
Purpose and Organization• The writer’s purpose or aim is what he or she wants to accomplish.

• Analysis breaks something into its parts and shows how the parts are related.
• Classification involved placing subjects into categories
• Comparison/Contrast shows similarities and differences
• Process presents the steps in a process or gives the reader directions.
