Maintaining Peak Performance

• The management of stress and the maintenance of high energy levels are critical to our ongoing success and enjoyment of life

• As the pace of change increases we can expect our experience of stress to do

likewise • When we are stressed the body responds physiologically with the classic fight or

flight response - which was great for survival 10,000 years ago but doesn't help much in a busy organisation

• Recent research into Ultradian Rhythms indicates that we work in focused bursts of 90

minutes - then we mentally check out for 10-20 minutes • Most people have a coffee or similar at this time • We strongly recommend a quick relaxation session at these times to stay at your very

best.

Mental Rehearsal

Your Key to Success

• Mental Rehearsal is undoubtedly one of the most important MindStore tools • In our view it's the single most important activity that lifts average performers to greatness

• If you want to be a peak performer, you must get into the habit of "seeing" your desired outcome before

it happens • Before important events, meetings and presentations simply access the Alpha State and in your minds eye,

mentally rehearse the outcome you desire. • In your imagination, pay special attention to what you can see, hear, smell and feel • Mental rehearsal is the secret of champions

Future History and Gestalt • The great Mohammad Ali coined the phrase

"Future History". Upon signing a contract for a fight, he would sit down, relax and in his imagination would run through the fight until the moment he won.

• He would then immediately freeze-frame the

winning mental image and become aware of all his senses as though he was there at that very moment. This is what he called a future history. Clearly by doing this he actually created a future vision, but because he had experienced it in such detail he believed that it had occurred.

• He then committed to repeating his future history over and over again in his mind's eye: first thing in the morning, last thing at night and during the day whenever it came into his awareness.

• Constantly repeating a Future History in the

mind triggers the Gestalt process in the brain. The subconscious mind then attracts people, places and opportunities that lead you towards the achievement of your goal.

Attitude

• It is absolutely critical that you decide to do all you can to eliminate the input of negative thought patterns

• It is now clearly understood that the quality of

our thoughts determines the quality of our lives

• Finding a way to managing our thoughts is

vital • By listing negative words and replacing with

positive ones we gradually shift to a more positive outlook on all things - and the added benefit of experiencing more personal energy.

The Importance of Goals

Key Principles • Inspiring goals that provide direction are the

foundation of peak performance • People who achieve great things in life have

their goals written down somewhere. Only 4% of people do this. Be one of them.

• Think Big! No one leaps out of bed

enthusiastically in the morning for a realistic achievable goal.

• Be less concerned about HOW you can

achieve your goals - especially in the beginning.

• Be absolutely clear on WHY you want to

achieve your goals. A powerful emotional connection to your goal is vital.

• Get the power of Gestalt working for you by

repeatedly thinking of and "seeing" the outcome you desire. An idea held firmly in

your conscious mind will receive the attention of your subconscious mind, which will then manifest in your life. Repetition is the key

Desire • Is the outward moving source that starts you towards your goal. If you can build strong desire you will

generate a strong emotive force to take action. The easiest way to build desire is to identify the benefits that will come to you as a result of having achieved an outcome.

Belief • Is the energy that keeps you moving towards your goal. It is a vital ingredient when things don't seem to

be working out too well. Delete negative talk by pretending that you have already achieved your goal. This further upsets the subconscious and stimulates it to work in your favour.

Expectation

• Attracts you towards your Future History. It is like a magnet. Build expectation by reading other

people's success stories and by programming regularly

The Alpha State

Relaxed Focused Aware

• Research has found that the ideal state for

learning is when the brain is in a relaxed but aware state

• When we say relaxed, we do not mean asleep.

We mean relaxed, focused and aware.

• This is called the alpha state

• This compares with the 'normal' state of 13-25

hertz which is called the beta state The beta state is that of most of our waking moments as we go about our daily lives

• At the other end of the spectrum we find, just

below the alpha level, the theta state which is even slower than alpha, and an even deeper sense of relaxation

• The alpha state can be achieved in a number of

ways and most of us achieve it at some point during most days. A typical time may be just before sleep, or on awaking.

• At this time the mind is clear, receptive to

information, and rapidly makes 'connections', realisations and joins up thoughts

• Many an 'AHA!' or 'EUREKA' moment comes at

these times
