What is Grant?-A financial donation given to support a person, organization, projects, or programs. (Pratt Library)

What is Grantwriting?-The art of securing funding for nonprofits via grant proposals

Funding Institutions:•Foundations•Corporations•Government Agencies

Funding InstitutionsFoundations -req. by law to distribute 5% of their assets annually

• Private foundations- usually set up by from an individual, family group of individuals, or a business (Marcus Foundation)

• Community foundations- publicly supported and operated for the benefit of a given place (Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta)

• Corporate-sponsored foundation- maintain close ties with the parent company, and their giving usually reflects company interests (Georgia Pacific Foundation)

Corporate Direct Giving Program -not separate legal entity and is not subject to laws governing exempt orgs. No endowments. (Charles Schwab)
